Sparta-commodities
Finance Business Partner
Salary
Job description
We Are Sparta
Sparta is the next-generation commodity trading platform. We give trading desks the clarity, control, and collaboration they need to move faster and trade smarter.
In February 2025, we secured $42 million in Series B funding. Now we’re scaling up across the business, and it’s an exciting time to join.
Our people are the driving force behind everything we do. At Sparta, you’ll be trusted to take ownership, backed by a team who wants you to succeed. You’ll be challenged, supported, and given room to grow. Because building something this ambitious takes everyone at their best.
At Sparta, your work has reach. From improving our platform, to powering smarter decisions for our customers, to changing how commodity trading is done around the world.
And because we’re growing fast, you won’t just build your career. You’ll accelerate it, with a level of ownership and impact you simply don’t get at bigger, more bureaucratic companies.
The role
You are the finance business partner at Sparta. You keep the P&L, cash, and balance-sheet projections current every week, and you sit beside RevOps and every function to turn plans into numbers and numbers into decisions.
This is a high-visibility seat, one step from the CFO and the executive team. You lead with the number and with AI. You make sure every team understands where their spend goes and how it maps to our strategic vision, and you help leadership place the right bets. This is about backing the right investments for the company.
The job is influence as much as analysis. You partner the business, not just model it.
We are a small finance team with a broad mandate — FP&A, legal, payroll, equity and tax all run from here. We want someone curious and versatile, who wants range across the whole finance surface rather than a narrow lane.
We run as a group across five jurisdictions from our Geneva headquarters. Finance is being built into a function that forecasts with confidence, partners the business, and gives leadership real-time clarity, with AI taking on the manual work so the team decides instead of chasing data. You will help build that.
What you’ll own
PLANNING, BUDGETING AND FORECASTING
- Budgets. Build the annual budget with function leads and consolidate it into one group plan the business can stand behind.
- The weekly forecast. Refresh the rolling forecast every week across the P&L, cash, and balance sheet. Keep projections live so leadership decides on current numbers.
- Topline, with RevOps. Partner RevOps on the top line. Track what moves revenue — pipeline to bookings, retention, expansion — and tie the commercial story to the plan.
- Long-range plan. Own the three-to-five-year plan that turns strategy into numbers — revenue, cost, headcount, and cash. Pressure-test the assumptions, run the scenarios, and keep it live as the strategy and the market move.
ACTUALS, VARIANCES AND REPORTING
- Actuals and variances. Report the actuals, run variance analysis against budget and forecast, and explain the drivers — the story behind the number, not just the number.
- Board decks. Support board-deck preparation each quarter with the financial inputs and analysis.
- Finance newsletter. Build and run a monthly finance newsletter that shares the key highlights with the business and our investors.
PARTNERING AND INVESTMENT
- Business partnering. Build a strong partnering relationship across the business and with all departments. Translate their plans into numbers, and make the trade-offs visible with numbers, not opinions.
- Where the spend goes. Make sure every function understands where their spend goes and how it maps to the strategic vision. Bring the analysis that helps leadership back the right bets.
FINANCE TECH AND TRANSFORMATION
- Tools and systems. Own how finance runs on its stack — and keep making it sharper.
- AI and automation. Automate the forecast refresh, the reporting, and the analysis. You lead with numbers and with AI.
- Transformative initiatives. Take the lead on finance transformation — new tools, cleaner data, and a faster path from data to decision.
