Job description

Job Description Summary

The Controls Quality team is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead and drive complex technical investigations across Root Cause Analyses (RCAs), Problem Solving Reports on emerging issues, non-down turbine PAC cases, and Major Event Investigations. This role is responsible for not only resolving field and product issues but also identifying and eliminating escaping defect pathways across design, validation, and release processes. The engineer will play a critical role in strengthening product quality by translating investigation outcomes into preventive actions, influencing engineering standards, and improving validation rigor.

The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to assess risk, define containment and corrective actions, and ensure readiness for product release through Gate 4 processes. The ideal candidate will provide independent risk assessment to support release decisions, integrate field learnings into product lifecycle gates, and drive continuous improvement in investigation effectiveness and fleet reliability.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Investigate and Eliminate Escaping Defects:
Identify and lead investigations into defects escaping design, validation, and release processes; determine breakdown points and systemic gaps, and drive actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Define and Implement Containment and Corrective Actions:
Develop, validate, and track interim and long-term actions that mitigate immediate risk, address root causes, and eliminate pathways for defect escape into the field.
  • Support Gate 4 Readiness and Release Decisions:
Partner with engineering and development teams to ensure investigation outcomes, open risks, and corrective actions are clearly understood, properly addressed, and incorporated into Gate 4 readiness assessments.
  • Drive Data-Driven Issue Prioritization and Trend Analysis:
Monitor fleet performance, tract and trend data, and event history to identify systemic issues, assess risk, and prioritize investigation and mitigation efforts.
  • Support Major Event and High-Impact Investigations:
Contribute to major event investigations through technical analysis, failure reconstruction, and clear documentation of findings and recommendations.
  • Integrate Lessons Learned into Engineering Processes:
Ensure investigation outcomes are translated into design standards, validation strategies, and engineering practices to strengthen defect prevention and product reliability.
  • Link Field Experience to Product Lifecycle Gates:
Drive incorporation of field learnings, historical failure modes, and RCA insights into validation plans, Gate 4 criteria, and release readiness processes.
  • Communicate Technical Findings and Recommendations:
Prepare and deliver clear, concise summaries of investigation status, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Technical Investigations:
Partner with Controls, FPM, Service Product Management, and Engineering Lifecycle Subsystem teams to drive alignment, ownership, and timely closure of complex field and product investigations.
  • Drive Root Cause Analysis and Problem Resolution:
Lead and support structured RCA activities for field issues, emerging risks, and non-down turbine PAC cases, ensuring rigorous problem definition, evidence-based analysis, and effective corrective action development.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience in a relevant technical field.
  • Extensive engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting technical investigations, root cause analysis, or field issue resolution in wind, power generation, or other complex industrial systems.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to assess risk, drive containment, and implement corrective actions.

Eligibility Requirements

  • In-person from Salzbergen office.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with wind turbine systems, turbine subsystems, and field performance investigations.
  • Strong background in structured problem solving, root cause analysis methodologies, and corrective action development.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze large and complex data sets to identify trends, emerging risks, and systemic issues.
  • Experience supporting PAC cases, major event investigations, or reliability improvement programs.
  • Ability to translate technical findings into clear recommendations for engineering teams and leadership.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects and influencing outcomes across matrixed organizations.
  • Familiarity with Lean, continuous improvement, or quality tools used to improve investigation effectiveness and product reliability.
