The Opportunity

Note: This is a term position with an expected end date of December 2028.

We are currently looking for a Financial Analyst to join our Capital Accounting team to support the Eastern Clean Energy Initiative (ECEI) projects in a permanent position. Reporting to the Senior Corporate Accountant, you are a key member of the Nova Scotia Power Finance team, and you will be responsible for providing financial analysis to influence business decisions and work related to ECEI projects.

Key elements of this role include

As a Financial Analyst, you will be responsible for

  • Supporting the month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial close processes to ensure financial results are complete and accurate
  • Collaborate with internal departments on reporting requirements for support documentation in preparation for audits
  • Reviewing month end project costs and compare to forecast
  • Review of invoices and accruals, including review against agreement or contract for rates and work expected
  • Completion of internal control procedures
  • Update of monthly project forecasting and reporting requirements
  • Assisting Nova Scotia Power's external auditors through quarterly reviews and the annual audit
  • Working with other departments to provide information, as required
  • Attendance of status meetings with project teams for project status updates
  • Other accounting, ad hoc, and special project responsibilities, as assigned

  • A university degree in Finance or Accounting with a minimum of two years of related experience, and a desire to pursue an accounting designation (CPA)
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and Microsoft Excel and be comfortable creating and analyzing spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of Oracle Fusion and Powerplan financial reporting systems would be considered an asset
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and possess strong leadership, quantitative, analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven, team-focused environment with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines
  • As the successful candidate you also possess solid business acumen with a strong customer focus and are innovative, with the ability to identify and implement process improvements
  • A related combination of experience and education will be considered
