He angituutanga: The opportunity 

Join IAWAI as an Advisor within the Infrastructure Futures & Strategic Growth team, where you’ll play a vital role in keeping the unit organised, supported, and delivering high‑quality outcomes for the city. Reporting to the Head of Infrastructure Futures & Strategic Growth, you’ll ensure the team meets its corporate obligations, stays on track, and consistently produces well-coordinated, timely outputs.

As the glue that connects people, processes, and priorities, you’ll provide essential project coordination and governance support across key initiatives. This includes managing governance processes, financial and procurement administration, project reporting, action tracking, and document control ensuring decisions are well‑informed, transparent, and accountable. Your oversight of schedules, milestones, risks, and deliverables will help keep projects moving smoothly and aligned with organisational goals.

You’ll also contribute to building fit‑for‑purpose project systems, reporting frameworks, and governance practices that strengthen how the team operates. With strong communication and coordination across project teams, consultants, governance groups, and stakeholders, you’ll help create an environment where great work can happen and where impactful outcomes for the city are delivered with confidence.

Oo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experience 

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., policy, science, engineering, law, social science) or business administration qualification
  • Positive attitude and you enjoy being part of a team
  • 3 years’ experience post qualification in an advisory or coordination/administration role
  • Local government experience is preferred, but not essential
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills including time management, meeting/workshop planning and coordination
  • Strong writing skills particularly around formal reports and the ability to draft, review and finalise documents • Advanced level of competency in Microsoft Suite
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders (internal and external)
  • General understanding of Te Ao Maaori and a commitment to give effect to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Ability to operate independently, anticipate requirements, take initiative and monitor workload
  • Willingness to undertake a wide variety of tasks
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Design flair and GIS proficiency to support us producing engaging and great-looking presentations and documents is desirable
