  • Role: Agricultural Inspector
  • Job Type: Permanent 
  • Location: West Thurrock (Southeast of England which includes Tilbury, West Thurrock, North Kent and Ipswich and any other locations as and when required)
  • Hours: 48 hours annualised contract- which can Include days, evenings and weekends (working around ship/vessel timings)
  • Salary: £30,476, including company car 
  • Industry: Natural Resources

At SGS, we’re looking for motivated, practical individuals to join us as Agricultural / Crop Inspectors. This is a great opportunity to move into the inspection and port operations industry, with full training, long-term development, and clear career progression.

What you’ll be doing:

As an Inspector, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of agricultural cargo movements across the supply chain. This is a varied, field-based role where no two days are the same. You will mainly be working outdoors across ports, terminals, and vessels.

You will be:

  • Travelling to ports, warehouses, and onboard vessels to carry out inspections
  • Attending ships to inspect agricultural cargos and take representative samples
  • Conducting quality and condition inspections of commodities such as grains, cereals, and other agricultural products
  • Drawing and handling cargo samples in line with industry standards
  • Recording inspection data and preparing accurate reports using SGS systems

What we’re looking for:

We’re keen to hear from candidates with a range of backgrounds, including:

  • Farming or agriculture experience
  • Crop science, agriculture, or related degree
  • Experience working in outdoor, hands-on environments
  • OR individuals looking to start a career in inspection, surveying, or port operations

You will also need:

  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to learn
  • Good attention to detail
  • Physical resilience and adaptability
  • Flexibility to work as part of a 24/7 operation
  • Strong communication skills
  • A full UK driving licence
