AECOM is actively seeking a motivated career Traffic/Safety Engineer to join our Charleston, SC office. This position offers the opportunity to join a highly regarded traffic engineering design team working on a broad range of traffic and roadway design projects. You’ll be part of a connected, design‑driven team where ideas are shared, technical quality matters, and experienced transportation engineers are invested in your success.
Working with project managers and lead engineers, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Assist Traffic Safety and Traffic Operations professionals as needed.
- Research and analyze vehicular and vulnerable road user (pedestrian, bicyclist, personal conveyance device user, or worker in a work zone) crash data.
- Provide analysis to support development of design or operational ideas and solutions.
- Research alternate solutions and design options in support of the project team
- Assist in preparation of studies, conceptual designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings and working drawings.
- Communicate and collaborate in a team environment and adapt to dynamic project needs.
- Assist with traffic study proposals.
- Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related discipline
- 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Valid Driver’s License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites, and as a condition of employment must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in applicable industry and SCDOT standards, regulations, and guidelines, including MUTCD, AASHTO Green Book, GDOT preferred CAD software (Microstation), and traffic analysis software (Synchro)
- EIT or Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of South Carolina or ability to obtain within 6 months
