About the Team
DoorDash Labs is an independent team within DoorDash. We explore robotics and automation to transform last-mile logistics. If you have a passion for applying robotics solutions in a service used by millions of people, we want to talk to you!
About the Role
As a Mapping Operations Associate (D3), you will be a key individual contributor on the Mapping Ops team, focused on keeping the fleet’s maps healthy and current. You will coordinate and execute data collection runs, validate map accuracy against real-world conditions, and drive the day-to-day workflows that ensure released maps stay serviceable as ODDs evolve. This role sits at the intersection of field operations, data quality, and cross-functional coordination — you will work closely with map curators, engineers, and local operators to surface issues quickly and see them through to resolution.
You're excited about this opportunity because...
- Coordinate and execute data collection runs using the Miata/mapping vehicle to capture up-to-date sensor data for map maintenance and re-mapping of existing ODDs.
- Monitor released maps for degradation, blockages, and serviceability issues; triage and prioritize map maintenance tickets in Jira and surface blockers to the appropriate team.
- Perform map validation workflows — including drive-all-lanes checks and QA reviews — to confirm that updated maps meet accuracy and safety standards before re-release.
- Maintain a healthy live-map state by tracking open blockages, coordinating curation fixes with map specialists, and verifying resolutions are reflected in deployed maps.
- Serve as a coordination point between local operators, map curators, and engineers: relay field observations, document recurring issues, and help translate operator feedback into actionable curation tasks.
- Execute and document the map maintenance pipeline (curation, QA, validation) following established SOPs, and flag gaps or inefficiencies to the Mapping Ops Lead.
- Support the ODD expansion process by scheduling and conducting data collection for new or modified zones and ensuring outputs are handed off cleanly for curation.
- Track and report on map health metrics — including blockage counts, validation pass rates, and maintenance cycle times — using Sigma and internal dashboards.
- Identify and escalate tooling issues encountered during data collection or validation workflows; contribute feedback to improve mapping tooling and curation processes.
- Maintain accurate documentation of data collection routes, validation results, and map maintenance actions to support audit trails and continuous improvement.
We’re excited about you because…
- 1–2+ years of experience in field operations, data collection, or technical operations — ideally in an autonomous vehicle, robotics, or mapping environment.
- Hands-on familiarity with data collection vehicles or sensor-based mapping workflows; comfortable operating a mapping vehicle in public road environments.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow and document multi-step validation and QA processes accurately.
- Effective cross-functional communicator — able to relay technical observations clearly to both operators and engineers.
- Proactive problem-solver who can identify map issues in the field and take initiative to document, escalate, and follow through to resolution.
- Proficient in Jira, Slack, Google Workspace, and Sigma (or similar dashboarding tools).
- Committed to safety: understands and consistently applies safe operating practices in public road environments.
- Comfortable with non-traditional, rotating schedules including AM/PM shifts as needed to support operational coverage.
