Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM - With the understanding that they will be responsible for covering other shifts of various times including some Saturdays
The Senior Armed Security Officer performs a variety of tasks as a uniformed, armed security officer to ensure the physical security of the credit union. This individual secures buildings and all perimeter gates at the beginning and end of each workday and provides other security services as assigned. An ideal incumbent has a professional, authoritative demeanor and maintains a flexible attitude with the ever-changing conditions that may arise from shift changes, branch coverages, emergencies, etc. The Senior Officer provides critical support by filling coverage gaps, responding to incidents, and reinforcing site operations as needed. They deter threats, mitigate risk, and ensure a consistent standard of protection across all assigned locations.
Responsibilities
- Lock and unlock properties each morning and evening before employees arrive and after their departure, depending upon shift assignment
- Conduct routine vehicle and foot patrol, inspecting the property for vandalism and unauthorized personnel, locking/unlocking buildings and perimeter gates and arming/disarming alarm systems as required
- Conduct armed security patrols of assigned facilities, buildings, parking areas, and surrounding property to deter criminal activity and identify security vulnerabilities
- Inform management immediately of conditions that could affect the security of employees, members, visitors, physical structures, and/or operations of the credit union
- Provide security for credit union events and on an “on call” basis; maintains order and assists with unusual situations
- Provide traffic control and parking assistance where needed for members, employees, and visitor parking lots
- Administer the remote alarm access program
- Operate the campus camera system to support investigations
- Communicate clearly and effectively with management via all available avenues
- Provide security escorts for employees leaving the credit union property at the end of each workday if requested and if certain situations arise where untimely escorts are needed/assigned
- Secure all properties at the end of each work day, including arming alarm systems
- Respond to security alarm systems and other emergencies
- Provide a well-maintained and serviceable personal firearm and ammunition, approved by the Security Ops Manager per credit union guidelines, for carrying while on duty
- Maintain proficiency and qualification with approved firearms and defensive equipment, ensuring compliance with licensing and training requirements
- Complete mandatory FDLE retraining annually to include use of force continuum, scenario assessment, legal aspects, report writing, and escalation/de-escalation training courses
- Operate Employee Badge System
- Operate the visitor tracking monitor system for the administration building
- Respond promptly and appropriately to incidents such as disturbances, suspicious activity, medical emergencies, active threats, fire alarms, and other emergencies
- Coordinate with local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency medical services, and internal management during incidents requiring external assistance
- Respond to assignments at various locations based on operational requirements, staffing shortages, emergencies, special events, or heightened security conditions
- Operate as a Roving/Flex Armed Officer, adapting to rapid response and work location changes, based on business needs
- Attend educational events to increase professional knowledge
- Complete annual compliance and info security training to understand employees' role in maintaining effective compliance and security programs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum age of 21 years old
- Minimum of 3 years of experience providing security in a financial institution
- Valid Florida Class G Security License (armed)
- Valid Florida Class D Security License (unarmed)
- Valid Florida Drivers License and clean driving record
- Must pass a written examination and successfully qualify on a firing range with a license-certified K instructor, and must qualify with the specific caliber of firearm intended to carry
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Adaptability to different environments and expectations
- Ability to prioritize tasks by effectively managing competing and changing priorities to meet deadlines
- Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task management
- Ability to independently resolve problems or situations with varying complexities
- Proficient written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators
- Ability to explain practices, procedures, and policies to reach agreement with others
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of credit union products, services, policies, and procedures
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of credit union computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties
