A Brief Overview The Lead Data Analyst will join the enterprise Data and Analytics team and will be responsible for empowering users with data across the institution, providing a unique blend of clinical, business, technical, and analytical expertise. The team follows a center of excellence model with analytics staff embedded throughout the enterprise to and crucial in utilizing data & analytics insights to drive strategic initiatives, improve safety & quality of care, patient experience, and streamline ensure efficient operations. The team combines business knowledge with data and technology to empower decision-makers and believes that user-friendly, self-service, embedded analytics products can improve patient outcomes, optimize processes, and reduce costs. We believe in providing actionable insights which drive real, measurable, impact! The team is looking for highly experienced analytics professionals who are creative problem solvers and are excited about joining a collaborative team to utilize data to transform CHOP into a data-driven organization; one that practices data-driven decision making and utilizes data to improve the experience of our patients, families, and staff.

The Lead Data Analyst is passionate about healthcare delivery in a patient care setting. A successful candidate is articulate, analytical, and a team player who understands the power of data storytelling to drive change. The Lead enjoys coordinating with interdisciplinary teams to create solutions for improving operational and clinical decision making. The analyst learns quickly, works independently, and is relentless in overcoming technical, process, and organizational obstacles.

The Lead will be an institutional expert across the entire data development lifecycle from data collection, data extraction, governance, to data analysis and data visualization. The individual will have excellent business acumen to help guide leaders in the creation and validation of KPIs to measure process and outcomes, conduct deep-dive analysis to identify trends and insights, excellent data storytelling skills to make data-driven recommendations, and to advanced analytics (forecasting, modeling, data science, statistics, predictive analytics) experience in order to develop a culture of pro-active, data-driven decision-making. The individual will be an expert in systems, tools, and processes to guide leaders and teams in estimating, designing, and building sustainable solutions that meet the most complex business objectives. They will individually contribute to the development of these solutions and apply advanced analytics techniques, as necessary.

Within the team, the Lead will provide technical leadership and guidance to the Data and Analytics leadership team as well as be a go-to expert for team members for training, consultation, and assistance.

This department works approximately 80% remotely, 20% on site in our Philadelphia offices on an as-needed basis.

What you will do

  • 1. Technical Leadership
  • Exceptional Technical Skills and strong knowledge of Data Warehousing and Analytics technologies (SQL, Snowflake, AWS, Netezza,, Cloud Environments).
  • Exceptional skills with analytis programming languages and Business Intelligence Tools (SQL, R, Python, Qlik, SAP BO, SAS)
  • Expertise in conducting deep-dive analyses which result in analytics insights and recommendations delivered via powerful, user-friendly, visualizations.
  • Strong understanding of visualization concepts and effective data storytelling approaches
  • Data Science experience developing forecasts, predictive models, and a strong understanding of statistics.
  • Experience with Epic Analytics Tools – Cogito (Reporting Workbench, Radar, Crystal)
  • Develops analytical solutions that are powered by robust data infrastructure which promotes scalability, re-use, and reproducibility of data.
  • Develops “end-to-end” technical architecture to include data input solutions, data governance process, enterprise data management, and the analysis-presentation of complex data.
  • Expertise in defining and developing KPIs and other meaningful metrics.
  • 2. Individual Contributor
  • Guides clinical teams and business stakeholders on large scope projects: gathering requirements, developing metrics, retrieving data, and ensuring validity of results
  • Utilizes advanced analytical and/or statistical ability to evaluate data, and make judgments and recommendations regarding process and outcome improvement work, financial outcomes, resource utilization, and clinical practice patterns
  • Proposes and creates innovative and appropriate data solutions (dashboards, reports, business intelligence tools, etc) for the measurement of processes and outcomes
  • Adept at learning new information systems and how the data generated contributes to the data development lifecycle
  • Advises on new data models, testing frameworks, and documentation practices
  • Demonstrates excellent presentation and communication skills to share findings in an understandable and actionable manner tailored to audience and customer's needs
  • 3. Project Management
  • Responsible for the execution of a project: creating project plans, monitoring project timelines, reporting on project status, identifying project resource needs, understanding needs of clinical teams to assure successful completion of project objectives, serve as key point of contact on assigned projects, participates in multiple work-streams
  • Works with data consumers at all levels of the organization to gather, analyze and manage business requirements, and work with various development team to design and test new business intelligence and data analytics solutions to drive decision making for system-level patient safety and quality improvement efforts
  • Proactively recommends improvements in clinical, financial and/or operational performance by advising health system consumers on the metrics that define value according to their requirements.
  • 4. Leadership
  • Develop and provide technical training and consultation within the department
  • Mentors analysts and cross-matrix teams
  • Point person for collaborative partnerships with different departments within the organization

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Health Science, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, Business or related quantitative fields Required
  • Master's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least six (6) years experience in analytics / business intelligence Required
  • At least ten (10) years in analytics / business intelligence Preferred or
  • data visualization tools preferred (Qlik, Tableau, Power BI, etc) Preferred or
  • data integration tools: DBT, Informatica, MS Integration Services etc. Preferred or
  • working as a data analyst within a healthcare setting Preferred or
  • with clinical, hospital and/or financial applications and/or systems Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in at least one computer programming language or analytical programming language (R, Python, SAS, etc)
  • Experience with SQL
  • Knowledge of relational database structures
  • Experience in project management

$104,600.00 - $138,600.00 Annually
