As a Senior Actuary at Premera, you will play a critical role in driving complex actuarial and analytical initiatives that directly influence business strategy, product design, and financial performance. In this highly visible role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, guiding decision-making through advanced analytics, risk assessment, and actuarial expertise while providing oversight to project teams and analytical workstreams.

As part of our actuarial team, you will collaborate across Premera to turn complex data into meaningful insights that shape products, pricing, and care delivery models. Your work will not only guide critical business decisions but also play a key role in improving affordability and access to healthcare for the members and communities we serve.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead complex actuarial and analytical initiatives, defining scope, work plans, and execution strategies that support key business priorities
  • Advise leadership on analytical strategy, risk assessment, and project priorities, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals
  • Oversee and take accountability for technical work produced by project teams, ensuring accuracy, rigor, and quality of outputs
  • Develop and evaluate pricing, provider reimbursement, and benefit analyses, including risk pools, stop loss, and cost structures
  • Interpret complex data and trends, translating insights into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership
  • Drive quality through peer review and strong documentation, ensuring consistency and integrity across actuarial work products
  • Partner cross-functionally to provide ongoing and ad hoc actuarial support, influencing decision-making across the organization
  • Mentor and develop junior team members while identifying opportunities to improve business processes, mitigate risk, and enhance operational performance

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience) and ASA or FSA designation (Required)
  • 8+ years of actuarial or analytics experience, including 5+ years in healthcare insurance (Required)

Additional Preferred Skills/ Experiences Include:

  • Deep understanding of health insurance risk, actuarial methodologies, and complex data analysis
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects and influence cross-functional stakeholders, including guiding analytical workstreams
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to translate complex insights into clear business recommendations and mentor/develop team members
  • Experiencing driving the vision and execution of enterprise-wide AI initiatives

The pay for this role will vary based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience.

The salary range for this role is posted below; we generally target up to and around the midpoint of the range.

National Salary Range:

$131,900.00 - $237,400.00

National Plus Salary Range:

$150,300.00 - $270,500.00

*National Plus salary range is used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska.
