This is a strategic opportunity to join MITRE’s Talent Acquisition Team working across all sectors to support Early Careers hiring efforts. The University Recruiter will work cross-functionally with colleagues and hiring managers to identify talent for internships and Early Careers roles.
We are looking for a dynamic, passionate and outgoing University and Early Careers recruiter to help attract the brightest early-career minds in science, engineering, and technology. In this role, you will identify and engage students from top-tier universities and research institutions—particularly those with backgrounds in AI, Machine Learning, data analytics, and computer science—to support our growing portfolio of federally funded research initiatives.
In this role, you will be responsible for identifying, engaging, and hiring top early-career talent through partnerships with universities, colleges, and technical programs. You'll represent our company brand on campuses, manage relationships with career centers and student organizations, and oversee full-cycle recruitment for internships and early career roles.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Identify and recruit candidates for internships, fellowships, and early-career full-time roles, managing the full-cycle recruitment process to include sourcing, screening and submitting qualified candidates to the business. (may be asked to help with hiring surges across Talent acquisition as needed)
- Serve as the primary recruiting lead for a portfolio of three or more strategic university partnerships, conducting regular campus visits and cultivating relationships with career services, faculty, student organizations, and key stakeholders to strengthen MITRE's talent pipeline
- Build trusted partnerships with hiring managers, providing data-driven guidance on talent availability, recruitment timelines, compensation ranges, and sourcing strategies.
- Develop proactive sourcing strategies for Early Careers talent, leveraging LinkedIn Recruiter, Handshake, industry networks, professional associations, technical communities, and referral pipelines.
- Serve as a point of contact for campus engagement, including career fairs, recruiting events, and virtual info sessions.
- Plan and execute engaging events on campus to attract students to MITRE.
- Plan and execute virtual and in-person events to engage experienced talent (e.g., tech talks, hiring events, meetups, and targeted networking sessions).
- Deliver an exceptional candidate experience through timely communication, transparency, and a high-touch, personalized recruiting approach.
- Reach out to referrals in a warm, professional manner upon receiving the resume.
- Serve as a MITRE Brand Ambassador internally and externally, representing the organization’s mission and values across all interactions.
- Create formal offers in Workday system and negotiate final offers as needed (including start dates, leveling, and compensation discussions in alignment with internal guidelines).
- Engage in on-campus events, including career fairs, to build relationships and convert prospective candidates into applicants.
Basic Qualifications
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 year’s experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
- 5+ years of experience in Early Careers/Campus recruiting
- Ability to work onsite in McLean, VA or Bedford, MA
- Ability to travel up to 50% as needed

- Active listening skills with the ability to quickly interpret a variety of hiring demands
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire highly analytical, research-focused candidates.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple recruitment cycles simultaneously
- Exposure and passion for AI and other relevant technology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in MS Outlook, MS teams, MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
- Positive attitude, openness to learning, able to receive feedback and a strong attention to detail
- Understands the importance of data accuracy and integrity

Salary compensation range and midpoint
$125,600 - $157,000 - $188,400 Annual
