Payroll Officer

Permanent Full-Time | Melbourne CBD | $70,000 base + superannuation

Australian Venue Co is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Payroll Officer to join our Melbourne-based payroll team.

In this role, you will support the accurate, timely and compliant processing of payroll and employee data across a large, fast-paced workforce. You will work closely with team members, managers and the broader People & Culture team to resolve payroll matters and ensure our employees are paid correctly and on time.

This is a permanent full-time opportunity suited to someone who enjoys working in a collaborative team, takes pride in accuracy and can confidently manage competing deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end payroll activities for a large workforce, ensuring accuracy, compliance and deadlines are met
  • Maintain employee payroll data, including new starters, employment changes, terminations and leave
  • Complete pre- and post-payroll checks and investigate discrepancies
  • Respond to payroll queries from team members and managers, providing clear and timely support
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations, reporting and month-end activities
  • Identify errors, recurring issues and opportunities to improve payroll processes
  • Work collaboratively with Payroll, People & Culture and operational teams
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling employee information

About You

You are highly organised, detail-driven and comfortable working in a high-volume environment. You take ownership of your work, communicate clearly and understand the importance of balancing accuracy, deadlines and customer service.

Experience and Systems

  • At least two years’ experience in a payroll or similar role, preferably within a high-volume environment
  • Working knowledge of Australian payroll requirements
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Outlook
  • Experience using Workday, Micropay or a similar payroll system
  • Experience with Humanforce or another time and attendance system is desirable
  • Hospitality, retail or another large, operational workforce environment is highly regarded
