Job description
The Software Engineer 2 is responsible for analyzing, troubleshooting, and implementing solutions for production claims that impact customer service delivery. This role ensures timely resolution of customer-impacting issues within defined SLAs by leveraging strong SQL skills and Oracle database expertise. Acting as a bridge between customer service and technology teams, the position applies program knowledge to maintain service excellence and supports applications such as CRM systems, call flows, and self-service claims portals. The role also involves collaborating with internal partners to deliver fixes and enhancements that improve the customer experience. Familiarity with insurance and claims processes is advantageous.
The Software Engineer 2 is a hands-on developer who builds, delivers, and supports customer-facing applications across web, backend, and cloud platforms. This role contributes to feature development, production support, and AI-enabled solutions while working under the guidance of senior engineers. The SE2 is expected to take ownership of well-defined components and contribute to delivering high-quality software solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Software Engineering & Delivery
- Develop clean, maintainable, and well-tested code for web applications and backend services.
- Translate business and functional requirements into technical designs and working software components.
- Build and consume REST APIs and integrate with cloud, database, and messaging services.
- Apply CI/CD practices to deliver software changes efficiently and safely.
- Write unit tests and participate in code reviews to maintain quality standards.
Production Support & Quality
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues within established service-level objectives.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement solutions that reduce recurring defects.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
AI-Enabled Development
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
- Integrate LLM APIs (OpenAI, Claude, AWS Bedrock) into application features under senior engineering guidance.
- Contribute to prompt engineering, retrieval workflows, and basic evaluation activities.
Collaboration & Agile Delivery
- Collaborate with product, QA, operations, and engineering teams to deliver sprint commitments.
- Participate in agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
- Communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and blockers in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 2+ years of professional software development experience.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one backend language such as Node.js, Python, or Java.
- Experience developing frontend applications using React or a comparable modern JavaScript framework.
- Solid understanding of REST APIs and microservices fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, S3, ECS, or equivalent cloud technologies.
- Working knowledge of relational databases including Oracle, PostgreSQL, or Aurora.
- Experience using GitHub and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions.
- Familiarity with LLM APIs, prompt engineering fundamentals, and awareness of RAG and vector database concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB.
- Familiarity with Docker and container-based development workflows.
- Exposure to event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as SQS, EventBridge, or Kafka.
- Awareness of Agentic AI concepts and frameworks including LangChain, LlamaIndex, and MCP tools.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and observability platforms.
