About This Role
- To conduct the safe troubleshooting, replacement, repair, testing and general maintenance of electrical and instrumentation production equipment and systems, according to electrical codes and specifications, to optimize plant processing and production.
In This Role You Will
General Electrical Maintenance Duties
- Carry out scheduled electrical and instrumentation maintenance activities safely and in line with Standard Task Procedures(STPs), Job Hazard Analysis / Field Level Risk Assessment (JHA/FLRA), and SAFE checks.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve electrical, instrumentation, technical, and operational faults affecting plant equipment and process performance.
- Install, inspect, test, maintain, and repair electrical power and control systems, alternating current variable speed drives, motors, and associated equipment in line with approved standards and original equipment manufacturer specifications.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, and circuit drawings to support safe and effective maintenance work.
- Use hand tools, portable electrical tools, and workshop equipment safely, and ensure lock-out / tag-out controls are in place during equipment isolation and reconnection.
- Monitor substations, respond to breakdowns and power outages, maintain motor control centres, motors, and drives, and help sustain equipment reliability.
- Maintain spare parts availability, contribute to the development of Standard Task Procedures, and support efforts to reduce downtime and control maintenance costs.
Health and Safety Management
- Assist with the adherence of electrical maintenance to all HSLP, Environment and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont’s Integrated Management System, Newmont vision and values.
- Assist with the compliance of all electrical apparatus, installations, and related work to the requirements of the Mineral and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulation, LI 2182.
- Assist with the implementation of applicable health and safety regulations and compliance programs.
- Accept responsibility for one’s own health and safety.
- Attend periodic safety meetings, inspections, and audits.
- Support and conduct risk assessments for tasks and provide expert advice on the safe operation and maintenance of electrical infrastructure.
- Actively promote safety in the workplace both within and external to the electrical maintenance team.
Communication and Information Management
- Manage maintenance documentation responsibly and ensure accurate information handling.
- Attend shift handovers and team meetings to gather and share critical maintenance information.
- Support the development of asset management strategies for equipment and installations.
- Recommend improvements to the Supervisor and maintenance team to enhance performance.
- Coordinate communication across operations, maintenance, planning, and other departments to resolve breakdowns efficiently and communicate maintenance needs.
Your Training, Skills and Experience Checklist
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations)
- Electrical Engineering Technician II certificate or equivalent is required as a minimum.
- Post trade qualifications in a relevant field are highly desirable.
- Inspecting or Sectional Engineer Certificate of competency / MINCOM Certification is highly desirable.
Additional Knowledge
- Demonstrable knowledge of mining or heavy industry maintenance practices, principles, and standards.
- Knowledge of industrial work management processes.
- Knowledge of defect elimination methodologies and their interpretation.
- Knowledge of High voltage electrical reticulation systems is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of process instrumentation.
- Demonstrable knowledge of basic measurements and calculations.
- Working knowledge of CMMS programs is desirable.
- Knowledge of planning and scheduling maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of the statutory regulations relevant to safety and the environment for the mining industry.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of electrical maintenance.
- Proven experience with the installation, commissioning, maintenance, servicing, inspection and repair of electrical apparatus and installations in a large-scale mining or heavy industry operation.
- Experience with the operation and maintenance of extra low, low, and high voltage electrical apparatus.
- Knowledge of and experience with the operation PLC’s is highly desirable.

- Well-developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literacy skills – SAP and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), CMMS/ERP and MS Project.

- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, technical engineering drawings, standards, specification, and manuals.
- Ability to work with the following:
- Electrical power systems: Electrical distribution systems, low- and high-voltage motors, overhead power lines (up to 34.5kV), transformers, power factor correction devices, and protection/monitoring relays.
- Control and instrumentation systems: Distributed control systems, UPS, valves, positioners, actuators, transducers, transmitters, and digital/analog field components.
- Industrial and mechanical support systems: Overhead cranes/hoists, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems.
