Job description

Abbott is a global healthcare leader that helps people live more fully at all stages of life. Our portfolio of life-changing technologies spans the spectrum of healthcare, with leading businesses and products in diagnostics, medical devices, nutritionals and branded generic medicines. Our 115,000 colleagues serve people in more than 160 countries.

The Opportunity

This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate biometric data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their health with our new sensing technology.

We need you to help accelerate our development of the next generation of bio-wearables by building software development and test infrastructure that emphasizes safety, quality, and reliability above all else.

This is an opportunity to break new ground, defining what is needed, leading project working groups, and measuring the impact of the team’s work.

What you’ll do

  • Plan, develop, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for embedded software projects.
  • Design multi-worker systems that are robust to hardware failures and upgrade outages.
  • Work with embedded software and electrical engineers to build infrastructure-as-code solutions for automated, on-target testing of medical devices.
  • Collaborate with cross functional engineering teams to develop and collect metrics on infrastructure impact on developer velocity, product reliability, and cost.
  • Document testing infrastructure for ease of use.
  • Prepare run books for testing infrastructure so that others can resolve common problems with minimal support.
  • Evaluate new technology alternatives and implementations of CI/CD initiatives, providing associated training and documentation as required.
  • Lead projects by developing schedules, planning and purchasing physical infrastructure and SW licensing, keeping projects on budget.
  • Offer strategic solutions, analysis, and advice regarding identified issues for future development.
  • Support company initiatives and comply with regulatory requirements by FDA and other relevant global regulatory agencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years of experience in Engineering or related field or master’s degree with 7+ years of experience or Doctorate Degree with 2+ years of experience.
  • Expert knowledge in CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Bitbucket CI, GitHub Actions, etc.).
  • Expert knowledge in scripting languages that run on both Windows 11 systems and Linux cloud containers (Python, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Experience with embedded software test infrastructure or Hardware-in-the-Loop testing.
  • Experience with software development life cycle processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge and experience in communications design and test using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, TCP/IP is a plus.
  • Experience working with safety critical software systems especially in the medical device space.
  • Practical experience in embedded software languages (C, C++, assembly, etc.).
  • Knowledge of the principles of quality software engineering as described by software lifecycle development processes that are consistent with ISO, IEEE, or other FDA recognized standards.
  • Knowledge of design controls and regulations for medical device development.

The base pay for this position is $114,000.00 – $228,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
