The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is seeking a Senior IP & Licensing Officer to support the valorisation, protection and commercialisation of innovations emerging from its Material Research Units. Working at the interface of science, intellectual property, industry collaboration and entrepreneurship, you will contribute to the development of patents, licensing opportunities and future spin-offs in fields ranging from advanced materials and nanotechnologies to process engineering and smart composites.
About LIST
LIST is a Research and Technology Organisation (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and information technology. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST supports citizens, public authorities and businesses in addressing societal and industrial challenges.
The Materials Research Units focus on key enabling technologies including nanotechnologies and advanced materials, with activities covering smart nanocomposites, photocatalysis, transparent electronics, multifunctional composites, bio-based polymers, advanced manufacturing and process engineering.
As part of the Partnerships & Ventures Office, you will work closely with researchers, business developers, IP legal advisers and innovation stakeholders to maximize the societal and economic impact of LIST research.
How will you contribute?
You will contribute to the identification, protection, management and commercial exploitation of intellectual property generated within the Materials Research Unit.
The role combines intellectual property expertise, technology transfer, stakeholder engagement and innovation strategy in a highly international research environment.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with researchers to identify inventions, assess innovation potential and support invention disclosures. Conduct prior art analyses, patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate evaluations. Coordinate patent filing and prosecution activities with external patent attorneys and contribute to IP portfolio management. Advise research teams and management on IP protection strategies, trade secrets and commercialisation pathways. Support the identification and qualification of Background IP for collaborative public-private and European projects, including Horizon Europe initiatives. Contribute to licensing activities, technology marketing and industrial partnerships at national and international level. Support entrepreneurship and spin-off creation initiatives arising from LIST technologies. Develop strong relationships with researchers, industrial partners and innovation ecosystem stakeholders. Monitor developments in IP policies, regulations and technology transfer best practices. Promote awareness of intellectual property and innovation valorisation across the organisation.

Required Qualifications
· Master's degree or PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science, engineering or a related scientific discipline. · Specialisation or strong professional experience in intellectual property management. · Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in patent law, IP management or technology transfer, preferably within research-intensive environments.
Technical Expertise
· Solid understanding of patent drafting, filing and prosecution processes. · Experience in IP portfolio management and innovation commercialisation. · Ability to understand and analyse complex scientific and technological topics across multidisciplinary domains. · Knowledge of collaborative research frameworks and IP aspects of public-private partnerships.
Professional Skills
· Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. · Business-oriented mindset with the ability to identify commercial opportunities. · Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and collaboratively. · Strong analytical, organisational and negotiation capabilities. · Entrepreneurial spirit and interest in innovation ecosystems.
Language skills
· Fluent English is mandatory. · French and/or German would be considered an asset.
