The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Corporate Actuarial is responsible for leading key elements of the Company’s valuation, reporting, and asset-liability management (ALM) activities in support of the Appointed Actuary function.This role plays a critical leadership position in financial reporting, capital and risk analytics, and new business profitability oversight, while also advancing actuarial systems, data governance, and modelling capabilities.
The AVP, Corporate Actuarial will build strong partnerships across Capital Management, Finance, Risk, Investments, and Product, ensuring consistency of assumptions, analytics, and reporting across the enterprise
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
1. Actuarial Systems, Data & Reporting
- Lead actuarial system change management initiatives, including AXIS and Risk Integrity enhancements, to strengthen governance and reporting capabilities
- Oversee actuarial data governance frameworks, ensuring data integrity, controls, and alignment with actuarial and enterprise data standards
- Support new business implementation from an actuarial systems and reporting perspective, addressing data, modelling, and process implications
- Drive continuous improvement in valuation processes, automation, and documentation
2. Asset-Liability Management (ALM)
- Review and recommend economic assumptions and target asset allocations in alignment with investment mandates
- Act as asset model owner, partnering with the CIO and external asset managers to enhance modelling capabilities and analytics (e.g., TruView)
- Support integration of ALM insights into capital, valuation, and business planning processes
3. New Business Profitability & Planning
- Oversee quarterly new business profitability reporting, including analysis of results versus plan and prior periods
- Lead development and review of the new business plan, assessing profitability, capital usage, and risk profile
- Provide insights to senior management on product performance, pricing adequacy, and emerging trends
- Support strategic initiatives including new product development and in-force management actions
4. Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead and develop a team of actuarial professionals , fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture
- Build strong working relationships across Finance, Risk, and Product
- Communicate complex actuarial and financial insights clearly to senior stakeholders
- Contribute to broader Corporate Actuarial leadership, including process improvements and strategic initiatives
- Advocate for and support ongoing mentoring and development through the Actuarial Rotation program
Key Qualifications
- Fellowship (FSA/FCIA) with 10+ years of relevant actuarial experience
- Strong experience in valuation, capital, ALM, or financial reporting within life insurance
- Deep understanding of Canadian (IFRS17, LICAT), and U.S accounting and capital regimes
- Proven leadership experience with ability to manage teams and influence across functions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to navigate complex issues
- Excellent communication skills, including executive-level presentation and report writing
- High degree of accountability and professionalism,
- Results oriented with a keen focus on quality and delivering value; ability to balance multiple priorities and projects.
- Strong attention to detail while retaining focus on the “big picture” and top risks
- Deep technical experience with Axis and Risk Integrity

Salary Range:
$175,000.00 - $209,000.00
The actual base salary for this position will depend on several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and education. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate in a discretionary variable incentive plan, results are subject to both individual and company performance.
