The Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) is looking for a Technical Executive to anchor our state-of-the-art Engine Room Simulator facilities. While your core focus will be managing and running high-tech simulation software and hardware, you will also play a key secondary role supporting critical hands-on training sessions such as personal safety training and survival craft/life raft launching, at our Polymarina waterfront facility.

Key Responsibilities: Primary Focus: Engine Room Simulator Operations & IT Upkeep
- System Operations: Manage the daily startup, configuration, and proper shutdown of all engine room simulator hardware consoles and software packages.
- Training Execution: Load, test, and run tailored simulation exercises (e.g., marine propulsion, electrical power generation, auxiliary machinery) to support academic staff during live practical labs.
- Technical Administration: Perform routine system diagnostics, coordinate software patches/updates, maintain secure configuration backups, and troubleshoot basic network issues to maximize facility uptime. Secondary Focus: Polyamine & Waterfront Training Support (As-Needed)
- Practical Lesson Support: Provide hands-on assistance to instructors at the Polymarina and associated workshops specifically during scheduled practical training blocks (daily presence at the marina is not required).
- Survival Craft Safety: Support and oversee the safe launching, handling, and recovery of lifeboats, fast rescue boats, and lifesaving appliances during student training modules.
- WSH Compliance: Maintain clean, organized training environments and enforce strict safety standards in full compliance with the Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Act. Administrative & Institutional Support
- Procurement & Inventory: Manage inventory logs, track critical spare parts, and handle procurement requests for the simulator labs and supported workshops.
- Audit Readiness: Assist the technical support team in preparing facilities and operational logs for internal and external quality audits.
- School Functions: Provide ad-hoc administrative or operational support for key institutional events (e.g., SMA Open House, Graduation).
[What we are looking for]
Requirements:
- Must hold a minimum Deck Class 5 Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) or equivalent relevant authorities.
- Minimum of four (4) years of relevant operational experience in the marine, seafaring, or engineering sector.
- A solid, practical understanding of safe launching procedures for lifeboats and fast rescue boats.
- Strong foundational comfort with PC hardware configuration, Windows environments, and basic networking to confidently administer simulation software systems.
- Good oral and written communication skills to guide students and coordinate with academic staff and external technical vendors.
- Self-driven, independent, and highly adaptable with a strong readiness to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Passionate about maritime education, safety culture, and mentoring engineering students.
Successful candidate will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
