Position Summary The Surgical Technician demonstrates a clear understanding of sterile techniques and maintains a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of special procedures. Status/Shift Location: Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, Orlando, FL Department: WPH L&D Type: Variable Full- Time (3, 12s) Shift: Nights Labor and Delivery Unit The function of Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies (WPHWB) Labor and Delivery Unit is based on the primary care model principles. As a Level III Perinatal Center, comprehensive patient centered obstetrical nursing care is provided for both low and high-risk families during the antenatal, labor and delivery and immediate postpartum periods. The Labor and Delivery Unit (L & D) is composed of twenty eight (28) Labor and Delivery Rooms (LDRs) that provide the expectant family with the opportunity to remain together as a unit during labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period. Labor and Delivery provides care for: − Mothers in active labor with expected delivery, with or without epidurals − Inductions of labor − Immediate postpartum recovery − Immediate newborn care post delivery − Complications of pregnancy requiring inpatient and outpatient evaluation − Emotional and physical care for patients requiring medical termination of pregnancy post-fetal demise. − 24-hour Anesthesia service that is available for pain management in labor and anesthesia management during cesarean birth. Responsibilities Essential Functions • Reviews preferences and verifies the case cart thoroughly before the procedure. • Maintains an orderly surgical field and consistently passes instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon. • Anticipates and prioritizes the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure. • Takes part in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as dictated by the procedure. • Maintains surgical specimens in a manner that identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation. • Assists in ordering and stocking specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and in accordance with departmental guidelines. • Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility. Qualifications Education/Training High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of: • Surgical Technology training program; or • Orlando Health Training Program; or • An accredited physician assistant program Licensure/Certification Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification. Experience None.
