OnsiteWho We Are:
At RTX, the world's largest aerospace and defense company, 185,000 great minds are united by purpose and inspired to make a difference solving the world’s most complex problems. With our three market leading businesses, world-class operations and investments in research and development, we offer capabilities and opportunity no one else can. Together, we push the boundaries of known science and find new ways to connect and protect our world.
Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems and has been revolutionizing modern flight for over 100 years. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.
What You Will Do:
The Principal Specialist, Supply Chain Management will provide technical and hands-on support for transitioning aerospace parts, assemblies, and processes to qualified suppliers in India.
This role ensures that manufacturing processes are properly transferred, validated, and sustained to meet aerospace quality, performance, and compliance standards. The engineer will act as the technical bridge between the OEM engineering teams and supplier manufacturing teams, ensuring the successful industrialization of transferred components and assemblies.
The position demands a strong foundation in aerospace manufacturing methods, process control, and problem solving, along with the ability to collaborate effectively across global and local teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Support for Work Transfer
- Review and interpret technical data packages (TDPs), engineering drawings, and specifications for manufacturability.
- Prepare and validate manufacturing process documentation (process flow, PFMEA, control plans, work instructions).
- Support suppliers in replicating or adapting existing manufacturing processes from incumbent facilities to new production locations.
- Validate transferred tooling, gauges, and fixtures for dimensional accuracy and capability.
- Ensure process qualification and readiness per aerospace standards — including FAI / FAIR, PPAP, and AS9102documentation.
2. Supplier Process Readiness
- Conduct detailed manufacturing capability and gap assessments at supplier sites.
- Provide on-site technical guidance to suppliers for process setup, machining methods, heat treatment, coating, assembly, or testing.
- Drive supplier process optimization to ensure stable, repeatable, and compliant production.
- Coordinate with Supplier Quality, Transition Managers, and Commodity Engineers to resolve technical or process issues.
3. Process Validation & Qualification
- Lead or support process qualification runs and ensure compliance to AS9100 and customer requirements.
- Validate critical process parameters, dimensional conformance, and special process certifications (NADCAP, if applicable).
- Support troubleshooting of nonconformities and implement corrective actions through structured problem-solving (8D, RCA).
- Ensure that all technical deliverables are documented, reviewed, and approved prior to production release.
4. Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and cycle time optimization at supplier sites.
- Capture and share best practices and lessons learned for future work transfers.
- Support digital manufacturing initiatives, such as model-based definition (MBD), SPC, and process capability analytics.
5. Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with global engineering, operations, and supplier quality teams to ensure alignment on design intent, manufacturability, and quality expectations.
- Serve as the key technical liaison between internal engineering and supplier manufacturing personnel.
- Support transition project reviews, status reporting, and technical documentation updates.
Qualifications you must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
- 9 + years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process industrialization, or supplier technical support in the aerospace or precision manufacturing domain.
- Strong understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes, such as precision machining, sheet metal fabrication, special processes (plating, heat treatment, welding), and assembly.
- Experience with AS9100, NADCAP, and related aerospace quality systems.
- Hands-on experience with FAIR, PPAP, APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, and Control Plan methodologies.
- Familiarity with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and ability to interpret complex engineering drawings.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM tools (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks), and statistical tools for process validation (e.g., Minitab, Excel).
Qualifications we prefer:
- Certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt), or Project Management (PMP).
- Experience supporting work transfers, localization projects, or NPI in a global supply chain environment.
- Knowledge of ERP/MES systems and digital process documentation tools.
- Familiarity with ITAR/EAR or export-controlled data handling.
Key Skills & Competencies
Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of aerospace manufacturing methods, process validation, and documentation.
Problem Solving: Strong analytical ability using root cause analysis, 8D, and structured problem-solving frameworks.
Supplier Collaboration: Ability to influence and guide supplier technical teams through process readiness and qualification.
Attention to Detail: Diligent in documentation, traceability, and compliance to aerospace standards.
Communication: Clear and concise communication across global and cross-functional teams.
Ownership & Accountability: Hands-on attitude with a focus on achieving production readiness and process stability.
Performance Indicators (Success Metrics)
On-time completion of process validation milestones (FAI / PPAP approvals).
Supplier process capability (Cpk/Ppk) achievement for critical features.
Number of technical issues closed within defined turnaround time.
First-pass yield improvement and scrap/rework reduction during ramp-up.
Stakeholder feedback (supplier and internal engineering teams).
What we offer:
- Be part of a globally recognized aerospace manufacturer executing strategic work transfers to India.
- Opportunity to apply advanced manufacturing engineering skills in a complex, high-precision environment.
- High exposure to cross-functional teams and global leadership, offering strong career growth potential.
- Daycare for young children
- Advancement programs to enhance education skills
- Flexible work schedules
- Leadership and training programs
- Comprehensive benefits, savings, and pension plans
