Job Description

The Digital Archive team at Nine is embarking on a true once-in-a-generation project to digitise and productise our unmatched content archive, representing 195 years of Australian broadcast media, film, and publications.

This is a unique opportunity to shape a lasting social and historical legacy for Australia. As our Principal Architect, you will lead the foundational design of a new suite of AI-powered products. These innovations will make our rich history accessible to internal creators and new external markets, unlocking diversified revenue streams for Nine.

What You Will Do:

• Architect for Scale: Design a highly scalable, robust, and performant infrastructure capable of handling the ingestion, processing, and long-term preservation of massive multi-media datasets.

• Drive AI & ML Integration: Build the foundational software architecture that integrates advanced machine learning capabilities to enrich content, enabling intelligent accessibility and smart discovery features.

• Lead Technical Vision: Establish engineering standards, define distributed system architectures, and ensure seamless cloud integration.

• Collaborate & Influence: Act as a key technical leader, mentoring engineering teams and articulating complex architectural decisions to senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders.

What You Will Bring:

• 6+ years of progressive experience in software engineering in enterprise-level platforms.

• Deep technical expertise in developing and maintaining applications using Golang.

• A proven track record of designing and implementing highly scalable, robust, and performant architectures.

• Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure and services (AWS, GCP, or Azure) to support massive data ingestion, high-throughput processing pipelines, and long-term digital preservation.

• Direct experience designing architectures that successfully integrate machine learning or AI capabilities to enrich content and power new product suites.

• Exceptional technical leadership, mentoring abilities, and communication skills.

Desirable Experience & Skills:

• Experience with Media Asset Management (MAM), digital archiving, video tech, or high-volume content digitisation.

• Familiarity with media standards, metadata frameworks, and preservation protocols (e.g., PREMIS, METS).

• Advanced DevOps practices, including Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Cloud Run) to optimize cost and performance.

• Familiarity with information security principles, including manual security assessment methodologies (authenticated and unauthenticated testing).

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
