In this role, you will act as a key on-site infrastructure expert, ensuring the stability, performance, and uptime of critical IT systems.
The Senior IT Technologist role involves working closely with local and global IT teams to support and optimize infrastructure operations. Responsibilities include troubleshooting complex issues, coordinating site activities, managing vendor relationships, and executing projects across various locations. The position requires strong technical skills in networking, computing, storage, and end-user technologies, as well as maintaining compliance with hardware, software, and security standards. After-hours support, on-call duties, and occasional travel are also part of the role.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Design, deploy, and document infrastructure solutions that meet business, architecture, and compliance requirements.
- Manage system configuration, capacity, compatibility, reliability, and overall infrastructure performance.
- Monitor environments, troubleshoot issues, analyze logs, and implement changes to improve performance and efficiency.
- Provide advanced support for network infrastructure, including routers, switches, wireless, firewalls, and multi-site connectivity.
- Maintain secure and reliable LAN, WAN, and MAN networks, including patching, segmentation, and upgrades.
- Deliver onsite infrastructure support, including diagnostics, hardware installation, cabling, configuration, and asset lifecycle management.
- Lead or support local and multi-site infrastructure projects, ensuring milestones, resources, and delivery timelines are met.
- Coordinate vendors, procurement, and onsite service activities while aligning business, site, and regional infrastructure needs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, global IT teams, and service providers to provide technical guidance, status updates, and recommendations.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, SOPs, and support for networking, compute, storage, backup, cloud, and hybrid environments.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Matric plus 3-year diploma/degree in IT field (or equivalent) with 4+ years of relevant experience
- 3+ years of hands-on experience across networks, servers, storage, and backup solutions
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic capability in infrastructure environments
- Advanced knowledge of networking, device security, and enterprise systems
- Proficiency in monitoring and troubleshooting tools
- Ability to independently perform infrastructure tasks (rack, stack, cabling)
- Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or Dell Technologies
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to lift up to 23 kg
Preferred qualifications include a CCNA certification or equivalent, previous Medtronic experience, and knowledge of both cloud and on-premises data center environments. It is also helpful to have experience with UPS systems, power supply, structured cabling, and leading or coordinating IT projects. Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere, a solid understanding of cybersecurity principles, and experience with audio-visual and unified communications technologies are also valued. In addition, proficiency in SCCM, Intune, and PowerShell, along with strong skills in log analysis, debugging, and infrastructure optimization, would be beneficial.
