Role Overview
Service Engineer will be responsible for installation, service and support of Rapiscan X-RAY screening products specifically RTT™ and CT product lines. Specifically, focus on PLC integration with baggage handling systems and providing technical support on the topic along with networking and IT installation and providing technical support on the topic.
Responsibilities
Primarily working on Rapiscan’s RTT and CT Product Lines (possibility of working on other products in Baggage Parcel Inspection):
- Integrate Rapiscan’s Advanced Detection Systems (ADS) into Baggage / Material Handling Systems (BHS) via programming and configuring PLCs.
- Commission Rapiscan’s ADS equipment; possible involvement in integration of Rapiscan’s BPI equipment.
- Provide service support covering PLC, Servers, Network, IT and Workstation issues.
- Assist Installation and service support of Rapiscan’s Advanced Detection Systems (ADS) at our customer’s premises primarily throughout Europe but could include overseas and UK (primarily with PLC & networking but could be asked to assist with mechanical works on the installation side).
- Carry out L4 corrective maintenance on-site at our customers’ premises primarily throughout Europe but could include overseas and UK.
- Involvement with Server installations and configurations.
- Provide L4 remote technical support when required.
- Engage with all internal departments, and externally with our customers and / or Distributors on service-related matters.
- Provide regular reports on service activity.
- Feedback to Engineering, Product Line Management and QA as part of our continuous improvement programme.
- Liaising with clients, both at operational and executive levels, for designing, implementing, and testing of new functions, as well as coordinating testing.
- Assisting or leading high-level investigations in other such as mechanical, electrical, and process control.
- Leading on-site works including occasional involvement with coordination and leading.
- Participating in meetings for the commissioning stages and testing stages, representing Rapiscan at both a technical and project management level regarding pending works as defined contractually (fibre optics installation stages, mechanical installations, design specifications.)
- Involvement in assisting the client in devising a Concept of Operations document based on the Functional Design Specification Document for better implementation of Rapiscan equipment.
- Liaising and forming working relationships with the main systems integrators as to leverage said relationships wherever they are needed for quick resolution of contractual obligations without resorting to penalties or client implication.
- Liaising between sales to projects to customers; providing updates to customers related to requested functionality.
- Any other departmental ad-hoc duties when required.
Qualifications
- A strong communicator with excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to articulate both the Product and Process to any Customer or Programme Stakeholder.
- Experience with installing, configuring, and troubleshooting MS Windows based servers and workstations will be an advantage.
- Experience with MHE or BHS an advantage.
- Experience with networking, matrices, servers.
- Ability of in-depth involvement for process creation, troubleshooting/debugging after the commissioning stages, to better assist clients with queries regarding system functionality/debugging of high-level issues (e.g., root cause analysis and amelioration plans for process derived issues, at hold or MHE level).
- Must have experience programming and integrating PLC systems (Profibus, Profinet etc)
- Experience with RsLogix and Allen Bradley products an advantage.
- Experience with Linux an advantage.
- Can process complex systems and logically work through problems.
- Must have experience in a field service engineer role.
- Flexible during times of change and reacts to project adjustments promptly and efficiently.
- Willingness to travel extensively overseas at short notice.
- Must be self-motivated and work well under pressure.
- Strong aptitude to learn.
- Ability to obtain airport security passes essential (some require a Criminal Record check).
Knowledge, Training and Qualifications if required
- A recognised qualification in a PLC programming discipline
- A recognised qualification in an IT or Engineering discipline.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, electronic equipment or complex multi-disciplined equipment or systems. Or knowledge of HV Systems i.e. Radar or Medical.
