Your impact
Reporting to the Supervisor, Projects, in the permanent position of Project Engineer you support Sustaining Capital engineering projects and ensure work aligns with engineering standards and project goals in line with Newmont’s enterprise objectives across the Tanami mine operations. The position scope will be across across Mine Projects, Tailings and Closure Projects, Project Engineering and Studies and Project Execution.
As part of our team you will
- Support engineering design and planning for sustaining capital projects, including resource allocation and timeline development
- Monitor project progress, documenting completion rates, and identifying areas for improvement
- Perform on-site inspections to ensure work aligns with engineering plans and regulatory standards
- Assist in the preparation of project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and compliance reports
- Work with procurement to manage materials and equipment for projects, ensuring timely availability
- Prepare weekly project status reports for the Supervisor, highlighting milestones, delays, and resource needs
- Collaborate with contractors on project specifications and timelines, ensuring adherence to standards
- Contribute to risk assessments for project activities, identifying and mitigating potential issues
- Record lessons learned from project execution, providing insights for future projects and improvements
- Perform quality assurance checks on project deliverables, verifying accuracy and compliance with engineering requirements.
Prerequisites for your success in the role
- Degree qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline
- Demonstrated engineering experience in sustaining capital projects delivery in a large scale mine operation
- Understanding of project lifecycle including design, studies and construction phases
- Ability to support planning, scheduling, budgeting and execution of engineering deliverables
- Proficiency in project management tools for cost control, forecasting and reporting
- Knowledge of engineering standards, risk management and resource coordination
- Familiarity with KPIs, project tracking and performance reporting metrics
- Strong understanding of HSE requirements and mining industry best practice and standards
- Exposure to project cost control and financial management principles
- Stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and resolve issues
- Experience managing projects and budgets in the AUD $1.5 million to $15 million range
- Ability to develop and manage project schedules and budget including completing monthly forecast updates for both areas respectively
- Proven experience toll gating Capital Projects to a capital project framework, writing business case documents and pitching projects to senior site leadership and stakeholders
- Proven experience raising project risks and initiating change management with appropriate change management tools
- Experience preparing Scope of Works documents and tendering projects to select a preferred vendor or contractor group
- Full and unrestricted work rights in Australia.
Your work environment
Newmont has fully owned and operated the Tanami mine since 2002. The mine operates in the remote Tanami Desert of Australia. The mine and plant are located on Aboriginal freehold land that is owned by the Warlpiri people and managed on their behalf by the Central Desert Aboriginal Lands Trust. Tanami is a fly-in-fly-out operation in one of Australia’s most remote locations. Tanami is 270 km from its closest neighbours, the remote Aboriginal community of Yuendumu.
This permanent position will be based on-site at the Tanami mine located in the remote Northern Territory working on a fly in fly out roster of 8 days on/6 days off from Perth, Darwin, Brisbane or Alice Springs. Mine village accommodation will be provided.
Full and unrestricted eligibility for employment in Australia will be essential.
