Location : Labman HQ, Seamer, North Yorkshire

Salary : £32,000 - £40,000 based on experience

Due to continued growth, Labman are seeking to add a Maintenance Electrician to our existing maintenance team. This role requires a qualified electrician with a strong maintenance background, current 18th Edition knowledge, and the competence to inspect, test, certify, and sign off newly installed electrical work.

The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday). There could be call outs from time to time.

Role Responsibilities

We are looking for a qualified Maintenance Electrician who will be responsible for planned and reactive electrical maintenance across our site, supporting facilities, production areas, building services, and site infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.

The successful candidate will carry out electrical maintenance, fault finding, installation support, inspection, testing, verification, certification, and remedial works. They must hold current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and suitable inspection and testing qualifications, with the ability to certify and sign off newly installed electrical work in line with BS 7671, company procedures, and all relevant safety requirements.

The Maintenance Electrician should have excellent fault-finding, problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills, with the ability to work safely and independently. Key tasks

  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on electrical systems, building services, equipment, fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, and associated site infrastructure.
  • Undertake electrical fault finding, diagnosis, repair, installation, inspection, testing, and commissioning support across the site.
  • Inspect, test, verify, certify, and sign off newly installed electrical work and electrical systems where competent and authorised to do so.
  • Ensure all electrical work is completed in accordance with BS 7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, safe systems of work, and company procedures.
  • Support electrical compliance activities, including inspection schedules, remedial works, record keeping, and contractor coordination.
  • Oversee contractors and ensure work is completed safely, effectively, and to the required standard.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks including minor plumbing, fabric repairs, painting, reactive repairs, and site improvement works.
  • Support production areas by responding to breakdowns, maintenance requests, and equipment-related issues.
  • Provide updates to colleagues, ensuring they are made aware of scheduled tasks, risks, and progress in a timely manner.
  • Report and resolve deficiencies to avoid faults and risks to health and safety.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, electrical testing, certification, remedial works, and contractor activity.
  • Be proactive in continual site, building, and electrical infrastructure improvement.

Essential Capabilities

  • Recognised electrical qualification, such as City & Guilds Level 3 Electrical Installation, NVQ Level 3 Electrical/Electrotechnical qualification, electrical apprenticeship, or equivalent.
  • Current BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations qualification, 18th Edition.
  • Inspection and testing qualification, such as City & Guilds 2391, 2394/2395, or equivalent, with competency to inspect, test, certify, and sign off electrical installations and newly installed electrical work.
  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Electrician or electrically biased maintenance technician within a facilities, industrial, manufacturing, or commercial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Good knowledge of safe isolation, electrical safety, lock-off procedures, and permit-to-work processes.
  • Able to carry out general building maintenance tasks in addition to electrical duties.
  • Strong planning and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Driving licence is essential.
  • Able to work unsupervised and make safe, practical decisions.
  • Efficient organisational skills and the ability to prioritise reactive and planned work.
  • Maintenance planning and project management experience.
  • Able to delegate, specify, and supervise works for sub-contractors.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for their work.
  • Computer literate and able to maintain accurate electronic records.

Desirable Capabilities

  • Health and Safety qualifications, such as IOSH Working Safely or Managing Safely.
  • Experience working with industrial equipment, machinery, control panels, or automated systems.
  • Experience with emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, PAT testing, fixed wire inspection, or electrical compliance programmes.
  • Experience costing jobs, sourcing parts, and managing small projects.
  • Experience training or mentoring colleagues.
