Location Description

The Post Consumer Brands plant in Asheboro, NC, features some of the most modern cereal production technology in the industry and the facility has quadrupled in size since it opened in 2007. Asheboro's 200+ team members produce some of our newest and most innovative cereals, like Oreo Puff's cereal! While there is plenty to do right in Asheboro, the town is only a few hours from the Atlantic Ocean in one direction and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the other direction.

Responsibilities

Maintain plant facilities, utilities equipment and infrastructure in optimal operating condition to maximize reliability and meet plant safety, productivity, and quality targets.

Job Activities

  • Support, implement, and maintain food safety practices as required through SQF.
  • Responsible for completing job duties in a manner that supports all plant safety, food safety, quality and environmental practices.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment troubleshooting and repair on all utilities, HVAC, and building systems inside and outside the plant.
  • Perform boiler checks and make adjustments and repairs as necessary. Perform checks and adjustments as necessary on other utilities equipment including cooling towers, air compressors, chillers, feed water conditioning, and plant water heating systems.
  • Perform routine checks on HVAC, refrigeration, and dehumidification systems, make any adjustments or repairs. Inspect condition of filters and replace as scheduled or needed to ensure optimal operation.
  • Maintain the plant’s potable and discharge water systems (sanitary sewer and process sewer) in optimal operating condition. Monitor and maintain the plant waste water treatment system and make necessary adjustments and repairs. Carry out scheduled storm water testing.
  • Maintain the site’s structures, roof, grounds, drainage, signage, and outdoor lighting, as needed.
  • Maintain plant life safety systems including fire alarms and suppression systems, emergency lighting and escape systems, and communication systems. Carry out scheduled inspections of life safety systems to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze equipment breakdowns to help determine root cause and collaborate with others in maintenance, operations, and engineering to implement long term fixes to prevent recurrence.
  • Complete all scheduled preventive maintenance and assigned work orders in a timely manner. Utilize work orders within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to execute planned work and to capture equipment history (trouble logs, repairs, and modifications).
  • Identify opportunities and carry out projects to improve safety, productivity, cost, and quality. Manage own projects and provide direction to contractors and vendors as required.

Perform any other function as directed to meet company and business needs.

Qualifications

General

  • Must be able to read and understand English.
  • Willingness to work nights, holidays, and weekends as needed should business conditions require it.

Education/Experience

  • 1-2 years vocational training in maintenance mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, machine shop, electricity, electronics, and programmable machine control computers.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in plant and production equipment maintenance, including mechanical, electrical and electronic systems. Experience in a food processing environment preferred.
  • Boiler, re frigeration, industrial air compressors, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical licenses are a plus.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong background in the operation and maintenance of production and utility machinery.
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot, analyze, and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems across all areas and types of equipment within the plant.
  • Knowledge and ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate machine tools, power tools, welding equipment, and forklifts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers at all levels of the organization and with vendors and manufacturers.

Strong computer skills and software knowledge. Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management System is a plus.

Starting base rate is $34.32 per hour, with additional compensation based on experience.
