Overview The Freight Carrier Operations Lead – External Brokerage is responsible for the day to day execution and compliance of freight movements across the external brokerage network. This role ensures loads are covered, tendered, executed, and delivered in line with service, cost, safety, and compliance standards. This position plays a key role in brokerage profitability, service reliability, and operational discipline by combining hands on execution with strong carrier governance and auditing practices. The operations lead acts as an execution leader and subject matter expert within carrier operations. Responsibilities Day to Day Operational Execution Execute daily freight coverage, tendering, and tracking activities to support service commitments. Drive proactive planning to increase pre book execution and reduce same day coverage. Manage exceptions, service failures, and recovery efforts in real time. Execute weekend and off hour coverage efficiently and consistently. Ensure strict adherence to end to end load process standards. Financial & Performance Accountability Support brokerage profitability through disciplined buy sell execution. Improve margin performance and reduce losses through market aligned sourcing. Ensure freight is procured in line with current market conditions. Support productivity improvements through efficient execution and carrier utilization. Contribute to continuous year over year improvements in brokerage performance. Carrier Management, Compliance & Auditing Execute carrier sourcing in accordance with routing guides, procurement strategy, and compliance standards. Ensure carriers meet all onboarding, safety, insurance, authority, and contractual requirements. Perform routine carrier compliance audits, including: Insurance and authority verification Safety and risk monitoring Documentation accuracy and completeness Support Highway Carrier Compliance requirements and ongoing system integrations. Maintain accurate carrier profiles and compliance records within the TMS. Identify compliance gaps, escalate risks, and support corrective actions. Partner with carriers to resolve compliance issues and improve execution performance. Technology & Process Enablement Execute daily operations within the Transportation Management System (TMS). Leverage system tools to automate tendering, tracking, and communication workflows. Reduce manual touches by following standard processes and system driven execution. Support adoption of new tools, enhancements, and operational controls. Provide feedback to improve workflows, system usage, and data quality. Strategic & Network Support Support initiatives that shift work from transactional execution to strategic operations. Execute within defined controls governing platform usage and freight eligibility. Support capacity strategy, volume governance, and network optimization efforts. Surface operational risks, trends, and improvement opportunities to leadership. Contribute to initiatives that deliver efficiency gains and operating expense improvement. Compensation and Benefits: The expected compensation range for this position is between $73,400 - $122,850. Location, confirmed job-related skills, experience, and education will be considered in setting actual starting salary. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range during the hiring process. Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 5% of annual salary paid out annually. Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement.
