Job description
Earlier this year, building on the strong foundation of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) as a fund manager, we introduced an optimized CIP Platform, with three platform companies providing services to CIP. To learn more, please refer to the CIP Platform section below.
In our optimized CIP Platform, CIP Terra Technologies – a project delivery company delivering projects from onshore wind, solar PV and battery energy storage systems, to bioenergy, thermal and transmission infrastructure – is currently looking for a Commercial Manager, to join the team in Melbourne, Australia.
Team
The selected candidate will become part of the growing CIPTT team with offices across Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney & Brisbane. The team currently consists of 25 employees with renewable energy backgrounds. The CIPTT team in Australia is delivering some of the largest renewable energy projects in Australia across BESS, onshore wind and pumped hydro.
Role
The role focuses on managing commercial, financial and business case-related workstreams within one or more projects. The person will help ensure robust financial modelling and support the commercial team in protecting the business case and executing the project’s commercial agenda.
Responsibilities will consist of but are not limited to:
The Commercial Manager supports the delivery of commercial outcomes on some of Australia's largest renewable energy projects through analysis, modelling and presentation across commercial workstreams.
Analysis & Commercial Management:
- Deep dive on project performance, risks and opportunities across projects
- Evaluate the commercial impacts of project developments, for example in relation to offtake, insurance, project financing and similar topics
- Manage commercial workstreams toward implementation across offtake, project financing, budgeting, etc.
- Identify upside opportunities and downside risks through analysis
Financial Modelling & Business Case Support:
- Develop and maintain financial models, to ensure project owners have a thorough understanding of the projects' returns and performance
- Track project performance against the business case at the time of investment decision
- Analyse cost, revenue and financing impacts
- Keep assumption books accurate and up to date
Commercial Reporting & Presentations:
- Prepare high-quality PowerPoint materials
- Support reporting on costs, risks, claims and business case impacts
- Prepare preparation of decision materials for senior stakeholders
Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Work with the Commercial Director to ensure project teams have a thorough commercial understanding of the value levers across the project
- Work with EPC, commercial, procurement and finance teams to improve project outcomes
You
We are looking for a high-performing individual with a relevant finance, commercial or engineering degree, or similar, and a minimum of 3–5 years of full-time experience. Relevant experience in complex infrastructure projects with comparable responsibilities, as well as renewable energy experience will be viewed positively.
We look for the following in a candidate:
- Advanced analytical and financial modelling skills
- Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Ability to structure and communicate complex information clearly
- Attention to detail and the ability to work across many different disciplines, such as finance, insurance, business cases, contracts and offtake
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Ability to priorities and coordinate tasks efficiently, ensuring all deadlines are met
