Job description

Do work that matters

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Originations Credit Strategy, you will lead complex analytical investigations to identify emerging risks, customer opportunities and strategy improvements, translating insights into changes that improve customer outcomes while maintaining strong risk performance. In this role, you will contribute to the evolution of automated business lending and the customer experience at scale.

See yourself in our team

Business Bank (BB) secures and enhances the financial wellbeing of people, businesses and communities, particularly CBA’s small and medium sized enterprise clients.

The Business Credit Risk Strategy team sits at the intersection of analytics, business, risk and technology. We are responsible for designing and optimising automated credit strategies that support lending decisions across the Business Bank customer lifecycle.

Our work directly influences who we lend to, how we lend and under what conditions. We combine deep analytical thinking with strong stakeholder engagement to deliver better outcomes for customers and the Group.

On any given day you will

  • Lead complex analytical investigations to identify emerging portfolio trends, assess strategy performance and uncover opportunities to improve customer and business outcomes.

  • Develop data-driven recommendations and influence stakeholders across Product, Technology, Line 1 and Line 2 Risk to deliver credit strategy enhancements.

  • Own the design, implementation and ongoing optimisation of automated business lending credit strategies.

  • Use hypothesis-led analytics to evaluate strategy performance, quantify opportunities and support strategic decision-making.

  • Ensure credit strategies operate within risk appetite and governance requirements through effective controls, monitoring and issue management.

  • Support senior leadership in regulatory, audit and risk engagements through clear analysis, reporting and stakeholder management.

Your experience looks like

  • 3+ years in credit risk or similar experience (e.g. analytics).

  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing or optimising credit risk strategies within a lending environment.

  • Proven ability to independently lead complex analytical investigations and translate insights into strategic recommendations.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, across multiple teams and senior stakeholders.

  • Experience using data to solve complex business problems and drive measurable customer and business outcomes.

  • Strong analytical capability, including proficiency in at least one of SQL, Python, R or SAS.

  • Ability to operate autonomously, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

  • Tertiary qualifications in a quantitative discipline such as Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Studies, Finance, Engineering or Science.
