We are looking for a skilled and motivated Workshop Fitter to join our depot team, maintaining and preparing plant equipment to the highest standards.
Purpose of the Role
To maintain, repair, and prepare plant machinery and equipment, ensuring all assets are safe, reliable, and ready for hire, while supporting the operational performance of the depot.
Key Responsibilities
•
Inspect, diagnose, and repair a wide range of plant equipment including excavators, dumpers, telehandlers, and attachments
•
Carry out routine servicing and preventative maintenance in line with manufacturer and company standards
•
Repair and replace mechanical components including hydraulics, engines, gearboxes, and braking systems
•
Undertake welding, fabrication, and minor structural repairs where required
•
Prepare plant for hire, ensuring all safety checks and quality standards are met
•
Complete job sheets, service records, and defect reports accurately using company systems
•
Manage parts and consumables, ensuring stock levels are maintained
•
Support installation of safety systems and additional equipment
•
Maintain high standards of workshop health & safety and organisation
•
Assist with breakdowns, plant recovery, and occasional on-site repairs as required
What We’re Looking For
Essential
•
Proven experience as a plant fitter, mechanic, or engineer within construction plant, heavy vehicles, or agricultural equipment
•
Relevant qualifications (NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds, or equivalent experience)
•
Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, and mechanical systems
•
Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills
•
Full UK driving licence
Desirable
•
Experience within a plant hire or rental environment
•
Welding and fabrication skills (or willingness to train)
•
Knowledge of modern plant systems such as telematics and safety equipment
•
Additional qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 3 Plant Maintenance, CPCS/NPORS)
