Job description
Work on Technology That Protects What Matters
At SiXworks , we build secure digital solutions that support Defence and National Security missions . Our teams work on complex problems where reliability, security, and speed of innovation matter.
We’re looking for a Network Engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical challenges and wants their work to have real operational impact.
What You’ll Do
As a Network Engineer , your work will bridge cloud native infrastructure engineering and platform networking, working on both traditional underlay networking and software defined networking within a Kubernetes architecture. You will be the glue that keeps containerised, and cloud-hosted services up and running, responsible for configuring and maintaining cloud platform infrastructure, virtual networking resources, and automation workflows from inception to optimisation.
You will participate in an on-call rotation to ensure incidents can be swiftly resolved.
Your work may include
- Engage and improve the operations and implementation of secure cloud platform network systems.
- Maintain, secure, and debug cross-cluster communications in an air-gapped kubernetes infrastructure.
- Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by implementing changes that improve network reliability, security and performance.
What We’re Looking For
We value people who take ownership, think critically, and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team tackling complex challenges. You don’t need to tick every box, but we’re particularly interested in people with skills/experience in:
- Experience with supporting, troubleshooting and implementing resilient, secure networks using a wide range of technologies.
- 3-5 years of experience with IP Networking, multi-tenant Wide Area Networks, L2-L7 network protocols, and Border Gateway Protocol.
- Experience directing field operation technicians, engineers, and extended workforces in a telecommunications environment.
- 3-5 years of experience with Linux systems administration or kubernetes.
- Experience with MPLS L3 VPN or kernel level/data plane cloud native networking.
- Hands-on experience deploying and operating production workloads in Kubernetes.
- Deep practical understanding of the Kubernetes networking model, with proven experience debugging CNI plugin (e.g. Cilium) configurations and Service Mesh (e.g. Istio) architectures.
- Experience of infrastructure automation (e.g. using Git, Bash or Python) to eliminate manual operation toil, manage environment configurations, and orchestrate complex platform upgrades.
Just as important are curiosity, strong problem solving ability, and the motivation to continuously improve how technology is designed and delivered.
