Job description

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join our busy kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated chef who thrives in a fast-paced, fresh-food environment and is looking to play a key role in delivering high-quality British gastro-pub cuisine.

Working closely with the Head Chef and Senior Sous Chef, you will support the day-to-day running of the kitchen, help maintain exceptional food standards, and ensure smooth service during busy periods. You will be confident leading sections, supervising junior chefs, and stepping up to manage the kitchen when required.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in high-volume kitchens, a strong understanding of fresh food preparation, and a genuine passion for seasonal ingredients and scratch cooking. You will be organised, reliable under pressure, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and hygiene.

Core Responsibilities

Supporting the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen

Leading kitchen operations during service and in the Head Chef's absence

Preparing and delivering fresh, high-quality dishes to specification

Maintaining food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards

Assisting with menu planning, development, and seasonal changes

Managing stock levels, ordering, and supplier relationships

Training, mentoring, and developing junior chefs

Monitoring food quality, consistency, and presentation standards

Working closely with front-of-house teams to ensure smooth service

Contributing to a positive, professional, and team-focused kitchen culture
