Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Reports to: Quality Assurance & Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Base: Manchester Site - Fulltime - Onsite

Contract: 6 Months FTC - With the Opportunity to go Permanent

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, improve sustainability, and maximize profitability. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, including design, quality, and production teams, to ensure that manufacturing systems are effective and meet the company's production goals.

Key Accountabilities

Process Design and Improvement

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Design and implement process flow and layout strategies to optimize production efficiency.
  • Analyse production workflows and identify areas for improvement & overhead Cost reduction

Production Support

  • Provide technical support to production teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Collaborate with production personnel to troubleshoot problems and develop solutions.
  • Ensure that manufacturing processes are compliant with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Equipment and Tooling

  • Specify, select, and oversee the installation of new manufacturing equipment. Specifically around pump test cells, automation and manual.
  • Maintain and improve existing testing and production equipment to enhance productivity.
  • Design and procure fixtures required for manufacturing processes.

Cost Reduction

  • Analyse manufacturing costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction. Through process changes in house, or out sourcing sub-assemblies to 3 rd party vendors
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles and techniques to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to optimize material usage.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process flow diagrams.
  • Document changes to manufacturing processes and ensure all modifications are updated in relevant systems.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment.
  • Stay updated with the latest manufacturing technologies and industry trends.
  • Conduct training sessions for production staff on new processes or equipment.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should bring

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Substantial experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or a similar role.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and other engineering tools.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Right to work in the UK - Permanent Status
