Job Title: Database Administrator

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Elastic search or similar) as well as relational databases in production, staging, and development environments.
  • Monitor database health, performance metrics, and resource utilization; proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks through query optimization, indexing strategies, and schema tuning.
  • Design, implement, and manage high-availability clustering configurations to ensure minimal downtime and seamless failover.
  • Develop, test, and maintain comprehensive backup and recovery strategies, including automated backup scheduling, point-in-time recovery, and restoration drills.
  • Enforce database security best practices — access controls, role-based permissions, encryption at rest and in transit, and audit logging.
  • Collaborate with application developers to review data models, optimize queries, and provide database design guidance during project development cycles.
  • Document database configurations, runbooks, incident reports, and operational procedures to maintain a well-governed environment.
  • Respond to and resolve database-related incidents, alerts, and escalations in a timely manner, including on-call support when required.
  • Evaluate and recommend new database technologies, tools, and methodologies aligned with evolving business and technical requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
  • 6 to 12 years of proven experience as a Database Administrator managing databases in enterprise-scale environments.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with at least one major NoSQL database platform: MongoDB, Elasticserarch or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in database performance tuning — indexing, query optimization, execution plan analysis, memory/cache management, and storage configuration.
  • Solid experience with NoSQL alongside relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or MS SQL Server) workloads.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and optimize complex queries, stored procedures, and scripts for automation and maintenance tasks.
  • Strong understanding of database security principles including authentication, authorization, encryption, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages (Shell, Python, or Bash) for automation of routine DBA tasks.
  • Familiarity with cloud-managed database services on AWS or GCP ( for ex Firestore).
