Core Details and Responsibilities
This role is based in our office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As an Intern, you will report to the Senior Associate Director and will be supported by your team throughout your learning journey.
As part of your internship, you will support the team in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data through reconciliations and detailed reporting for complex fund structures. You will develop a working knowledge of portfolio systems and collaborate with various internal teams to support client deliverables, gain exposure to system processes, and build your operational knowledge.

- Currently studying Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or Statistics (from the 5th semester onwards)
- Previous experience in a similar environment is a bonus, but not required
- Exposure to or interest in financial derivatives pricing and accounting is an advantage.
- Familiarity or interest in data management and structured data.
- An enthusiastic individual with a genuine interest in building a career in financial services.
- Curious and eager to learn, with a proactive attitude and a willingness to take initiative.
- Proactive in approach, showing willingness to flag issues and ask questions before they escalate.
- A good communicator who is comfortable asking questions and sharing ideas with their team.
- Good level of English (reading & writing); fluency is an advantage
From a high-level perspective, the core responsibilities that form your role are broken down into the following 7 categories:
• Reconciliation and Reporting
a) Comprehensive Reconciliations: Support the team in conducting reconciliations of cash, positions, interests, expenses, and corporate actions, comparing data from clients, brokers, custodians, and other sources.
b) Detailed Reporting: Learn to generate and support T+1 reconciliations for clients, developing an understanding of how cash, market value, security-related events, and corporate actions align between our Portfolio System and counterparty information.
c) Development of Templates: Support the creation of reconciliation templates using data management tools, gaining hands-on experience with reporting processes and accuracy controls.
- Data Management and Query Resolution
a) Data Monitoring: Assist with data entry and learn to monitor trades, prices, and security-related data, supporting the team in addressing and resolving exceptions as needed.
b) System Query Resolution: With guidance from your team, assist in addressing system-based queries impacting the accuracy of position and P&L valuations, building your analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Client Communication
a) Reporting to Clients: Assist in preparing and delivering reports to clients on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, developing your skills in clear and accurate client-facing communication.
b) Advocacy and Support: Work alongside team members to understand how Catalyst supports its clients, learning how deliverables are aligned with the Administration Service Agreement and Service Level Agreements.
- System Management and Upgrades
a) System Upgrades Participation: Gain exposure to workstreams focused on system upgrades and maintenance of Advent Geneva and other data management applications, supporting team members as needed.
b) Pricing Workflow: Begin to understand the automated pricing process and learn to identify common issues, with guidance on pricing workflows including setups for MarkIt, BVAL, and other pricing vendors.
- Operational Support
a) Operations Delivery Calendar: Support the maintenance of the Operations delivery calendar, learning how timely delivery of daily fund administration products and services is managed.
b) Audit Preparation: Support the team during the year-end audit and financial statement preparation process for assigned funds, gaining practical exposure to audit workflows and interactions with auditors and internal teams.
c) Board Meeting Reports: Assist in preparing materials for the Fund’s Board of Directors meetings, developing your understanding of governance reporting standards and the importance of accuracy in board-level communications.
- Continuous Improvement
a) Ad-Hoc Support: Assist with ad-hoc requests from clients and internal teams, developing a proactive mindset and an understanding of responsive client service.
b) Process Development: Share observations and ideas to support the development of new processes and procedures that enhance business efficiency and exceptional client service.
c) Industry Awareness: Begin building awareness of industry, regulatory, and jurisdictional trends that could impact the business, contributes ideas and learning how Catalyst responds to evolving client needs.
- Risk and Compliance Responsibilities
a) Compliance Tasks: Learn to perform routine compliance checks under the guidance of your team, building familiarity with company risk and compliance processes and policies.
b) Record Keeping: Support the maintenance of organised records of compliance documents and reports, developing good documentation habits from the outset.
c) Assistance in Audits: Support the team during internal audits and compliance reviews, gaining practical exposure to audit processes and expectations.
d) Research Support: Assist in researching compliance-related queries and regulatory information, strengthening your analytical skills and regulatory awareness.
e) Learning and Development: Actively engage in structured and on-the-job learning opportunities to build a solid foundation in compliance principles, regulations, and best practices within the financial services industry.
