We are seeking a highly competent and experienced accountant with a strong background in accounting firm practice to join our team. This role is designed for professionals who have developed solid technical expertise in accounting, tax, and financial reporting, and are ready to operate in a more dynamic, client-facing, and technology-driven environment. The successful candidate will take ownership of client engagements, oversee accounting processes, ensure compliance, and contribute to advisory and business support services. Key Responsibilities • Manage a portfolio of client accounts across multiple industries • Review bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial records prepared by junior staff • Prepare and review monthly management accounts and financial reports • Oversee tax compliance processes (VAT, WHT, PAYE, CIT) and statutory filings • Coordinate year-end financial statement preparation and support audit processes • Provide practical accounting and tax advisory support to clients • Supervise, mentor, and review the work of trainees and junior accountants • Lead and support implementation of cloud accounting systems (Xero, Zoho, Usawa) • Ensure proper documentation, internal controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements • Participate in client meetings and communicate financial insights effectively • Identify process improvements and support system optimization for clients Role Expectations • Deliver accurate, timely, and high-quality work across all client engagements • Demonstrate strong review capability and attention to detail • Manage multiple clients, deadlines, and priorities effectively • Maintain professional communication with clients and internal teams • Take ownership of deliverables and drive tasks to completion • Contribute to building efficient systems and scalable processes within the firm This role is ideal for an accountant who wants to move beyond routine compliance work into a more strategic position that combines accounting expertise, technology, and client advisory. Requirements Educational & Professional Qualification • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline • ACA qualification from Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (mandatory) • Additional certifications or training in accounting, tax, or finance are an advantage Experience • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an accounting firm or professional services environment • Proven experience in handling multiple client accounts and engagements • Strong background in financial reporting and tax compliance Technical Competence • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards (IFRS) • Solid understanding of Nigerian tax laws and compliance (VAT, WHT, PAYE, CIT) • Experience in preparing management accounts and financial statements • Proficiency in accounting software (Xero, Zoho, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (data analysis, reconciliations, reporting) Skills & Capabilities • Strong review and supervisory capability • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and priorities • Effective communication and client relationship management skills • Leadership ability with experience mentoring junior staff Behavioural Expectations • High level of integrity and professionalism • Strong sense of ownership and accountability • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision • Adaptability and openness to technology-driven accounting systems • Interest in developing into advisory and leadership roles This role is best suited for experienced accountants who are confident in their technical ability, comfortable managing client relationships, and ready to take on greater responsibility within a growing and forward-thinking firm.
