About the role: As Deputy Lead – Sports for Development, you will play a key operational role in implementing and managing grassroots sports initiatives across rural Punjab. Working under the guidance of the Sports Lead, you will help strengthen access to quality sports infrastructure and opportunities for children and youth, while managing field operations, program rollouts, partnerships, and local engagement. This role is ideal for a mid-career professional passionate about sports, youth development, and social impact with strong project execution capabilities and hands-on field experience. What you’ll do: Program Implementation & Operations · Lead day-to-day implementation of the Sports for Development program in identified villages. · Coordinate with village SPOCs, coaches, and field teams to ensure the smooth functioning of sports centers. · Oversee rollout of grassroots tournaments, engagement events, and talent scouting initiatives. · Conduct site visits regularly to monitor program activities and address challenges in real time. · Maintain high standards in sports center functioning, equipment usage, attendance tracking, and coaching quality. Project Management · Build and maintain strong working relationships with government officials to support program goals and advocacy efforts. · Act as a key liaison between the organization and relevant government departments, ensuring timely and effective execution of one ground projects. · Support planning and execution of initiatives requiring government collaboration or clearances. · Represent the organization at government meetings, events, and stakeholder sessions. · Develop micro-level implementation plans and timelines in alignment with annual strategy. · Maintain program MIS and dashboards, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and prepare periodic progress reports. · Assist in budget tracking, procurement coordination, and logistics planning for program-related activities. · Support the Lead in planning and executing new pilots or expansions within the state. Stakeholder Engagement · Build and maintain relationships with local Panchayats, Sarpanches, schools, and sports community leaders. · Coordinate with local government sports departments and district officials for program alignment. · Facilitate community awareness campaigns through schools, Gurudwaras, and door-to-door engagement. Talent Identification & Academy Coordination · Work closely with coaches and field teams to identify promising young athletes. · Liaise with academies and sports institutions to create a pipeline for talent progression. · Organize trials, training sessions, and documentation for youth selected for higher-level training. Documentation & Learning · Document success stories, case studies, and lessons learned from the field. · Assist in creating training material and SOPs for field staff and village partners. · Capture media (photos/videos) from field to support visibility and fundraising teams. Requirements Skills and Qualifications: · Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in grassroots sports development, rural project implementation, or youth-focused programs. · Education: Graduate degree in Sports Management, Development Studies, Rural Management, or related fields. Postgraduate preferred but not mandatory. · Strong understanding of rural Punjab’s socio-cultural context and sports ecosystem. · Proven ability to manage field teams and drive performance across multiple geographies. · Comfortable with travel across rural districts and spending extended periods on the ground. · Excellent project coordination, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills. · Basic familiarity with digital tools for data collection, reporting, and documentation. · Passion for using sports as a tool for community development and youth empowerment.
