Large Group Client Manager, Employee Benefits- Job Description
Position Summary
The Large Group Client Manager partners with Benefits Consultants and clients to manage the full lifecycle of the employee benefits program, including renewal strategy, client engagement, and ongoing service delivery. This role is accountable for delivering high-quality account management, identifying opportunities to enhance client outcomes, and ensuring alignment with client business objectives. The position blends strategic consulting, operational execution, and hands-on client service, supporting organizational growth through retention, satisfaction, and value creation.
Key Responsibilities
Functional Leadership & Ownership
· Owns day-to-day client relationships for large group employee benefits accounts.
· Acts as a subject matter expert on plan design, renewals, and market trends.
· Partners with Benefits Consultants to align strategy with client goals.
· Leads client renewal processes, including strategy development and execution.
Hands-On Execution & Delivery
· Prepares and presents renewal options, financials, and benefit strategies.
· Conducts open enrollment meetings and employee education sessions.
· Executes account management deliverables, including reporting and documentation.
· Balances client-facing responsibilities with detailed administrative execution.
Reporting, Quality & Operational Support
· Maintains accurate and up-to-date client records and documentation.
· Ensures quality, accuracy, and timeliness of deliverables.
· Monitors client accounts for risks, issues, and service gaps.
· Utilizes systems such as Epic, Dynamis, HRIS platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Integration
· Collaborates with internal teams to address client needs and deliver solutions.
· Communicates proactively regarding renewals, service issues, and opportunities.
· Supports cross-sell initiatives and integrated client strategies.
· Fosters a collaborative and positive team environment.
Growth, Change & Special Initiatives
· Identifies opportunities to retain clients and improve satisfaction.
· Supports growth initiatives through expanded services and cross-selling.
· Participates in professional development and internal training.
· Adapts to regulatory and market changes impacting employee benefits.
Process Improvement & Best Practices
· Identifies opportunities to improve workflows and client service processes.
· Recommends and implements scalable solutions.
· Stays informed on industry trends, legislation, and emerging practices.
· Contributes ideas to enhance team performance and client outcomes.
Center of Excellence (COE) Contribution
· Contributes expertise in employee benefits to shared organizational capabilities.
· Supports development of best practices, tools, and client service standards.
· Assists in building repeatable processes and consistent delivery models.
· Partners across teams to drive integrated solutions and client value.
Accountability
· Delivering high-quality client management and renewal outcomes aligned with client goals.
· Maintaining accuracy, compliance, and reliability in all client deliverables.
· Driving client satisfaction, retention, and growth opportunities.
· Building strong, trusted relationships with clients and internal partners.
· Demonstrating ownership, sound judgment, and prioritization in all responsibilities.
Qualifications
Required
· 3-5 years of experience in employee benefits, including fully insured and self-insured plans.
· Strong knowledge of plan design, ancillary coverages, and benefits legislation.
· Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication and presentation abilities.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and detailed work effectively.
· Proficiency with business technology including Microsoft Office and HRIS tools.
· Valid driver's license.
Preferred
· Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
· Maryland Life & Health license or ability to obtain within 90 days.
· Completion of continuing education requirements.
· Experience with systems such as Epic or Dynamis.
