The University of Miami/UHealth, Inpatient Critical Care Services has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Educator .

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Collaborates with Nurse Educator 3 and under the direction of the Manager, assesses and implements multi-site/specialty unit(s) educational programs for nursing and clinical staff based on environmental scanning: identified practice gaps, regulatory/accreditation, specialty standards, PI reports, mission/values, policies, procedures, guidelines, and learning needs.
2. Develops and evaluates activities to achieve specific outcomes related to identified deficits or opportunities for improvement in knowledge, skills, or practice.
3. Creates a learning environment by collaborating with practitioners, leaders, nurses, educators, patient care staff, and unit management in providing continuing nursing education and inservices.
4. Coordinates education of patient care staff to ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
5. Documents completion, reviews and recommends revision of competency, and addresses competency deficits in staff members and teams.
6. Assesses and evaluates the process of orienting, socializing, and integrating an employee to the organization with a focus on retention and growth.
7. Facilitates multi-site/specialty unit(s) orientation of licensed and unlicensed healthcare personnel during onboarding and when changes in roles, responsibilities, and practice settings occur.
8. Collaborates with PDD to develop, coordinate, manage, facilitate, conduct, and evaluate onboarding and orientation programs for multi-site/specialty unit(s) licensed and unlicensed healthcare personnel.
9. Appraises professional knowledge by partnering with individuals, groups, and/or organizations to share expertise in planning and decision-making to achieve common goals. Collaborative partnerships may include interprofessional groups within the organization, academic/practice partnerships, and community partnerships.
10. Participates in the planning and approval of applicable continuing education programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
11. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Addendum: Inpatient Critical Care Services

  • Supports the educational and professional development needs of inpatient critical care nursing staff across assigned units
  • Coordinates and facilitates specialty-specific onboarding, orientation, and competency validation for nursing and clinical staff
  • Collaborates with leadership to identify practice gaps and implement targeted education and improvement initiatives
  • Supports evidence-based practice, patient safety, and regulatory readiness initiatives within assigned critical care areas
  • Assists with ongoing competency assessment related to critical care, emergency response, hemodynamic monitoring, and specialty equipment/processes
  • Partners with educators, leaders, and interprofessional teams to promote consistent clinical practice and professional growth
  • Supports Shared Governance, quality improvement, and nursing professional practice initiatives within assigned areas.

 

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.

 

Certification and Licensing:

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida required. Critical care or specialty certification preferred.

 

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of critical care nursing experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of critical care nursing practices
  • Ability to support competency validation and specialty education
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
