Job description

Job Summary:

The Logistics & Import/Export Manager is responsible for managing the end-to-end process of global freight movements. This role ensures that all import and export operations are compliant with international regulations, and that goods are transported efficiently and cost-effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Freight Operations & Execution

Focus on the day-to-day physical movement of goods and managing real-time logistics challenges.

  • Shipment Management: Plan and coordinate all domestic and international shipments, including scheduling, documentation, and tracking.

    • Oversee multi-modal transport routing (air, ocean, and surface freight) to ensure on-time delivery. Coordinate closely with internal production, warehousing teams, and external suppliers to align dispatch and receipt schedules. Proactively track key milestones and provide real-time visibility to cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Issue Resolution: Act as the primary point of contact for resolving any logistics-related issues, such as delays, damage, or customs holds.

    • Develop and execute contingency plans to mitigate supply chain disruptions. Lead root-cause investigations for transit damages or losses, manage freight insurance claims, and expedite critical shipments when standard routing fails to meet urgent business needs.

2. Trade Compliance & Administration

Ensure all global movements adhere to legal standards and that historical data is properly governed.

  • Customs Compliance: Ensure all import/export documentation (commercial invoices, bills of lading, COO) is accurate and compliant with customs regulations.

    • Verify Harmonized System (HS) code classifications, origin criteria, and valuation. Stay continually updated on shifting international trade regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements to prevent costly penalties. Liaise directly with local customs authorities and regulatory bodies to facilitate smooth and expedited cargo clearance.

  • Documentation & Record-Keeping: Maintain a complete and accurate record of all shipping activities and documentation for auditing purposes.

    • Establish robust digital and physical filing systems for all trade documents. Ensure absolute audit readiness for internal financial reviews and external regulatory inspections. Oversee compliance with corporate data retention policies and manage duty drawback or tax exemption documentation where applicable.

3. Vendor Strategy & Cost Control

Highlight the financial and relationship-management aspects of the role, focusing on efficiency and partnerships.

  • Carrier Relations: Maintain relationships with freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers to negotiate competitive rates and ensure high service levels.

    • Establish and monitor stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with all logistics partners. Conduct regular performance evaluations and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to assess vendor reliability, address operational bottlenecks, and cultivate strategic, long-term partnerships.

  • Cost Optimization: Analyze transportation costs and delivery performance to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.

    • Conduct route and lane analysis to consolidate shipments and maximize container utilization. Actively monitor workflows to eliminate or minimize accessory charges such as demurrage, detention, and storage fees. Implement lean supply chain principles to drive continuous operational improvement without sacrificing delivery speed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, or a related field with Professional certifications, such as a Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS).
  • Experience: 5-7 years of experience in import/export operations, customs brokerage, or a related logistics field.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with customs declaration software and trade compliance platforms.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Knowledge of international trade regulations, customs laws, and Incoterms.
  • Familiarity with international freight documentation (e.g., bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists).

Preferred Skills:

  • Exceptional leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Strong communication skills with internal teams (production, sales) and external partners (suppliers, carriers).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status or other protected status. EEOE/M/F/Vet/Disabled. All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
