Position Summary

Counseling In Schools (CIS) is seeking caring, reliable, and enthusiastic Substitute Group Leaders to support NYC after-school programs serving students in grades K–8 throughout the 2026–2027 school year. Substitute Group Leaders will support Activity Specialists and program leadership in maintaining safe, structured, and engaging after-school environments. Responsibilities include supervising groups of students, assisting with activities, supporting behavior management, and promoting social-emotional learning and positive youth development practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervising and engaging groups of students during program activities
  • Supporting behavior management using restorative and positive youth development approaches
  • Assisting with attendance, transitions, and activity facilitation
  • Building positive relationships with students and staff
  • Supporting safe and inclusive program environments

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children under 13 preferred
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
  • DOE and DOH clearance required

Compensation

$20–$25 per hour, commensurate with experience
