Summary: The Automation Controls Manager - IC&S Engineering (Industrial Controls & SCADA) is responsible for utility scale power plant Automation Controls/Energy Management systems throughout all phases of new construction projects and Support Services operations support obligations. This role manages Automation Control activities and IC&S direct reports, including but not limited to automation control/energy management functions related to grid compliance/Top Level control systems, substation control systems, BESS generation control systems, PV generation control systems, Turbine generation control systems, and any hybrid control systems required for projects with multiple generation assets. This position interfaces heavily with the Development and Construction teams, as well as the Client and Subcontractors.
This role will be hybrid requiring a minimum of 3 days in office.
Requirements
- Provides Automation Control/Energy Management expertise on wind, substation, energy storage, and solar power systems.
- Leads Engineering Teams pertaining to Automation Control/Energy Management system designs that include controls narratives, HMI functionality, equipment BOMs, point lists, rack/enclosure elevations, power distribution diagrams, critical spares lists, software specifications, FAT procedures, construction work instructions, commissioning work instructions, SAT procedures, etc.
- Manages efforts with Automation Control/Energy Management consultants and subcontractors which includes meetings, deliverables, testing, bill of materials, budgets, and system completion.
- Manages Automation Control/Energy Management Engineers to develop quality assurance specifications, ensures a quality system is installed and tested to RES’s Automation Control/Energy Management quality assurance specifications, and oversees quality assurance of Automation Control/Energy Management systems during all phases of new construction projects.
- Manages direct reports and subcontractors that oversee Automation Control/Energy Management system installation inspections on substation, wind, battery, and solar power systems to confirm the Automation Control/Energy Management system has been installed per RES requirements and tested to meet RES, client, QSE, Utility, and regional reliability council requirements.
- Manages the IC&S Automation Controls team responsible for control functions that ensure safety, design reviews, factory acceptance tests (FAT), commissioning, site acceptance tests (SAT), and turnover plans are executed responsibly and reliably.
- Communicates and coordinates with RES internal teams, owners, subcontractors, site teams, and other key stakeholders to execute Automation Control/Energy Management system activities and ensure project milestones are met.
- Creates deployment strategies for Automation Control/Energy Management solutions according to timeline and budget.
- Maintains project and department documentation in RES documentation control software.
- Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled, or expected.
- Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.
Additional Responsibilities
- Works with IC&S Director to establish Fiscal Year budget and staffing plan.
- Provides strategic advice, implements solutions, and optimized business processes for RES Automation Control/Energy Management Engineers and their supporting departments.
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of industry fundamentals and leading functional practices.
- Works with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction to identify and resolve Automation Control/Energy Management problems or issues related to design information, schedule, material deliveries, change management, safety, and quality.
- Manages the application of Automation Control/Energy Management quality and control procedures.
- Provides Automation Control/Energy Management technical guidance and support to the team and other project stakeholders.
- Supports review and analysis of data and technical report preparation.
- Manages efforts to maintain Automation Control/Energy Management project and department documentation.
- Works with the Project Manager(s) to provide progress and schedule updates related to Automation Control/Energy Management activities.
- Ensures all Automation Control/Energy Management quality assurance documentation from commissioning and testing activities are completed and turned over to the Project Manager to be incorporated into the client job books.
- Supports Automation Control/Energy Management Warranty requests for completed project sites.
- Interfaces with the IC&S Commissioning Managers and Automation Control/Energy Management teams to schedule O&M training.
- Troubleshoots problems until site requirements are met.
- Stays current with professional and industrial best practices, providing insights to ICS/SCADA/Automation Control/Energy Management teams and Engineering leadership.
- Ensures completion of other ad hoc job-related duties/functions and projects to support the IC&S Engineering teams.

Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent and at least 7 years' experience or at least 9 years of relevant experience in a similar position required.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent and at least 5 years of relevant experience in a similar position preferred.
- 7 or more years of proven utility or industrial experience, including work on large capital-industrial construction projects required.
- 2 or more years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally 5 to 15% required.
- Strong knowledge of utility scale electric power industry.
- Proven experience with power and Automation Control/Energy Management, data acquisition, and telecommunications.
- Field experience in Automation Control/Energy Management power systems, testing, commissioning, and communications networking preferred.
- Experience with working collaboratively and professionally with clients, vendors, employees, directors, and supervisors.
- Ability to critically evaluate designs from an economic and technical standpoint.
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
- Intermediate Excel including charts, graphs, bars, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, COUNTIF, SUMIF, filtering information to provide quality data, creating macros to automate common tasks, and managing large amounts of data.

Anticipated base salary range: $147,000 - $184,000
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
