Job description
Cash moves through Hungry Lion stores every hour of every day. This role exists to make sure none of it goes missing, unverified, or unresolved. As Banking Coordinator, you're the central point for banking compliance across our South Africa, Namibia, and Lesotho store network - chasing, checking, and closing out issues before they become problems.
This is a follow-up role as much as a checking role. You'll be the person who notices when something hasn't happened and makes sure it does. If outstanding issues make you uncomfortable until they're closed, you'll be good at this job.
WHAT THE JOB ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE
- Running daily checks to confirm stores across all three countries are following banking procedures and following up when they're not.
- Verifying that card payments match records on Merchant Online and Transaction Junction every day, no exceptions.
- Resolving card-related queries from stores and the Customer Care team quickly and accurately.
- Monitoring Cash-in-Transit (CIT) collections by tracking missed pickups, escalating outstanding issues, and ensuring responses don't fall through the cracks.
- Liaising with Mutual on faulty safe issues and CIT key requirements.
- Following up with stores on banking stock on hand, ensuring nothing runs short.
- Checking clerk records daily to confirm all required tasks have been completed on time and correctly.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Matric (Grade 12).
- At least 2 years of experience in a retail or finance environment.
- Solid working knowledge of cash-up and reconciliation processes.
- Competent in Excel and Google Sheets.
- Clear communicator because you'll be in contact with stores, internal teams, and external service providers regularly.
- Accounting as a Matric subject is an advantage.
- Experience in cash handling or a finance-adjacent role is an advantage.
WHAT YOU GET
- A role with real scope; you're not supporting one store, you're covering an entire three-country network.
- A Finance team that values accuracy and takes the work seriously.
- Exposure to multi-country retail banking operations is a strong foundation for a finance career.
- A direct line into how cash flows through a fast-growing QSR business.
WHO WE ARE Hungry Lion opened its first store in Stellenbosch in 1997. One store, one idea: great food, served with energy and genuine warmth. Today that idea runs across more than 500 stores in multiple African countries and we're still growing. Innovation is part of how we compete - from the way we use AI and technology to run smarter operations, to the way we back our people to think differently and solve real problems. Whether you're on the floor, in the kitchen, or behind the scenes at HQ, every person here shapes what this brand becomes. The best of Hungry Lion is still ahead and we're looking for people who want to be part of building it.
