  • This position will be In-Office
  • Monday - Friday, Day & Swing Shift available
  • The hiring range for this role is typically between $29.54 and $38.26 an hour, with the full range extending to $46.99 an hour based on experience, internal equity, and career progression
  • Swing shift qualifies for a $1 shift differential

Primary Function

The Engineering Technician – Testing is responsible for maintaining and upgrading prototypes, products, tools, and assemblies in support of Sigma Design’s engineering activities. This includes electromechanical assembly, system setup, test execution, troubleshooting, and documentation in support of engineering validation activities with limited supervision.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities

Maintain and upgrade prototypes using mechanical assembly, point-to-point wiring, soldering, and harness assembly

Support builds involving pneumatics, sensors, motors, and other systems

Execute product validation, functional, and system-level testing using established procedures and test plans

Configure test environments and devices under test using software tools, command line interfaces, and system configuration files

Support testing activities across Windows, Linux, and MacOS environments as required by engineering programs

Monitor, document, and communicate test results, system issues, and discrepancies to engineering teams

Troubleshoot design, build, test, and basic system configuration issues using established procedures

Operate multiple test systems, terminal sessions, and computer-based diagnostic tools simultaneously

Perform electromechanical tests and record results independently

Assist engineers with refinement of test procedures and continuous improvement of test processes

Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred

2+ years relevant experience

Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical prints

Familiarity with command line operation in Windows, Linux, and MacOS environments

Ability to navigate file systems and manage files using basic command line tools

Basic understanding of networking concepts, remote system access tools, and software configuration files

Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, bench power supplies, and soldering tools

Experience using Excel or Google Sheets for tracking, reporting, and documentation

Mechanical aptitude and strong attention to quality and detail

Strong attention to detail and a safety-first mindset

Strong written and verbal English language communication skills

Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group

Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Sigma Design Core Values

Work Environment

Standard lab/production environment. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
