Reports to: Deputy Secretary General - Economic Development and Employment Division

SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Deputy Secretary General for Economic Development and Employment, he/she will assist the UfM Secretariat in pursuing and developing its work on trade and economic relations with a focus on sustainable trade, sustainable investment and regional integration, as well as support with the UfM Grant Scheme on Inclusive Digital Trade.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
•
Coordinates the implementation of the Economic Development and Employment Division’s activities, including those supported by the German Development Cooperation.
•
Supports the UfM Secretariat in the relevant UfM Regional Platforms of Dialogue under the Economic Development and Employment Division.
•
Contributes to the development and implementation of the Trade and Investment portfolio in the UfM Secretariat and assists with the work of Economic Development and Employment on other areas of priority, in particular, the 2026 UfM Economic Forum.
•
Contributes to the implementation of the mandates related to the UfM Secretariat in the UfM Ministerial Declarations and relevant UfM Regional Platforms of dialogue under the Economic Development and Employment Division.
•
Provides support to the main themes and related emerging dossiers, provides expert inputs to documents and papers, ensures regular inputs within the overall frame of the UfM.
•
Follows up with the beneficiary projects’ ecosystem of the UfM Grant Scheme on Inclusive Digital Trade.
•
Other related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
•
Be a national of one of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Member States.
Academic Background
•
University degree (Masters) in Economics, Finance, or other relevant discipline.
•
Master and/or PhD degree in areas related to economic development is a plus.
Professional Requirements
•
Minimum 10 years of experience in the field related.
•
Minimum 5 years of experience in dealing with the multilateral trading system and international organizations.
•
Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in the Middle East and North Africa region.
•
Experience in the management of relations with donors as well as in working with development projects funded by international organizations and development agencies.
•
Experience in operational planning, budgeting and monitoring of work programs.
•
Knowledge of the Euro-Mediterranean economic and trade outlook.
•
Good knowledge of the European Union and its institutions.
•
Good knowledge of managing donor-funded grant schemes.
•
Proven ability to effectively work in an intercultural setting as well as coordinating and networking skills.
•
Strong analytical skills and ability to make sound judgments, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Planning and organizational skills.
•
Strong writing skills to produce reports, interventions and background notes on areas of priority under the Economic Development and Employment Division.
•
Computer literacy in MS office tools. Excellent communication, drafting and reporting skills.
LANGUAGES SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
•
Excellent command of English and one or two of the other official UfM working languages (Arabic or French), orally and in writing.
•
Knowledge of other languages from UfM countries is a plus.
