Currently, the City of Belleville has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, strategic, and dynamic individual to join our Transportation and Operations Services Department as a Transit Supervisor. Position Type: Permanent Full Time Number of Positions: One (1) Department: Transportation and Operations Services Department File Number: SV26-75 Location: 400 Coleman Street, Belleville and 165 Pinnacle Street, Belleville Hours: 40 hours per week; rotating on-call requirement Employee Group : Non-Union Salary: Grade 8 ($107,520.24- $128,001.65 per year) Closing Date: Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 4:30 PM PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Reporting to the Manger, Transit Operations, the Transit Supervisor is responsible for overseeing public transportation and the leadership, mentorship and development of our team of Bus Operators. The Transit Supervisor monitors on-street transit service and coordinates operations to meet established performance standards. The Supervisor monitors dispatching functions and allocation of operators to meet on-street operational requirements and controls; and to respond to operator and customer service issues.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The position will
- Coordinate safety programs and communications and all related projects to ensure optimum efficiency and safety of the transit service
- Assist in the administration of the transit office by participating in the activities of management including long-range planning, process improvements, performance ratings and discipline for operators
- Provide on-the-job orientation, training and supervision to all Operators
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the transit division to ensure compliance to route timing, ESA standards, OHS Act and the HTA
- Perform annual performance appraisals
- Participate in the selection process of Bus Operators, maintaining records
- Prepare administrative reports as required
- Monitor the performance of contracted suppliers
- Analyze Key Performance Indicators and report monthly to the Transit Manager
- Prepare media releases regarding safety concerns, inclement weather impact and promoting website enhancements using social media
- Analyze statistical data regarding ridership trends, and make recommendations to the Transit Manager regarding alterations in hours of service, routing, and scheduling of bus fleet
- Assign work to Operators in accordance with the requirements of the Collective Agreement
- Assist in evaluating locations for bus stops, shelters, and landing pads for existing routes as well as proposed routes
- Respond to requests, complaints and inquiries from the public and other sources
- Investigate and follow up on all accidents or incidents involving transit vehicles including liaison with police and insurance adjusters
- Be responsible for supervising the development, maintenance and integrity of the City transit system
- Assist in the development and maintenance of a program to improve transit ridership which will include route maps and user guides through improved access and route management techniques
- Assist the Fleet Supervisor with scheduling buses for service and repair
- Work with the Transit Advisory Committee to achieve transit goals

EDUCATION/TRAINING/SPECIALIZED SKILLS: Minimum Qualifications:
- A college diploma in business management, operations management or related field
- Valid class "G" driver's license with clean driver’s abstract
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough practical knowledge of transit operations is an asset
- A working knowledge of administrative policies and procedures directly related to public transit services
- Knowledge of applicable codes, standards and legislation
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, CAD, other computerized response programs
- Valid class "C" driver's license with “Z” endorsement WORK EXPERIENCE: Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of four (4) years supervisory experience
- Experience managing and supervising in a unionized environment Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with Commissions or Advisory Committees is an asset
- Knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) with respect to public transit and the Highway Traffic Act
- Experience in a municipal transit system
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, decision-making and public relations skills, with the capability to issue clearly understandable written and oral instructions.
