Job description

Who we are : LuckyGunner.com was founded in 2009 to revolutionize the way Americans buy ammunition online. Since then, we have grown into one of the internet’s largest ammunition retailers and one of the most respected sources of firearms-related content.

Who we need : One of the keys to our success is our competency in managing and optimizing the fast-moving ammunition supply chain, largely through creating and carrying out an effective purchasing strategy. We need help further disrupting the industry by building on our reputation for providing the internet’s best selection of ammunition.

We are looking for someone to join our small, motivated team to work alongside our Purchasing Manager in our Knoxville office. This person will be charged with various tasks involving purchasing, capital allocation, supply chain management, and operations. The ideal candidate is a motivated, ambitious individual who can lead the charge with an ownership mentality, seeking out and creating new purchasing opportunities, effectively optimizing existing supply chain relationships, and optimizing fast-moving inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Purchasing inventory – Evaluating the effects of each purchasing opportunity on overall inventory breadth, cannibalization, inventory turnover, risk, profitability, and cash flow.
  • Actively looking for purchasing opportunities from suppliers – We’re not looking for someone who has a sit back and wait mentality.
  • Managing pricing for several thousand items to maximize value creation.
  • Mapping out logistics and purchasing processes to ensure that all aspects of our business are being run in an efficient manner that can be scaled and easily understood by overlapping business units.
  • Interacting with suppliers via the phone, email, and in person to ensure that our supply chain is adding the maximum value possible to both our customers and suppliers.
  • Traveling to meet with suppliers around the country to forge lasting relationships and enhance value for both the supplier and LG. Desired Qualities :
  • Have an ownership mentality – You will be managing a large supply chain with lots of moving parts. You must be able to think with an owner’s perspective to be effective.
  • Enjoy being challenged and pushed – We are demanding and have high standards.
  • Like working hard – We believe the harder you work, the luckier you get.
  • Enjoy identifying and solving problems by yourself – We don’t have time to hold your hand.
  • Are detail oriented – This role involves a lot of moving pieces, and the small details matter. You should love applying mental models from the fields of micro-economics and investing.
  • Love technology – Our entire business is built on and facilitated by technology, so you will need to love it (at work and in your spare time).
  • Passionately driven – We want to work with someone who brings energy and enthusiasm to their work.
  • Love spreadsheets – You should love Excel spreadsheets and Google docs. We use these tools daily to aid in making effective and objective decisions.
  • Are honest – It’s obviously a prerequisite to have personal character, but our team can also be brutally honest.
  • Personally made investments in the stock market (especially if in individual equities and not just mutual funds).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or similar, or M.B.A.
  • 3 or more years of post-collegiate professional experience
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and Google Docs/Sheets
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook
  • Experience with Google Search and general web navigation

Skills Assessments : All applicants will be required to take a series of basic skills assessments. Please do not apply unless you are willing to complete these assessments. The process for finalists will include a more in-depth skills test, a phone call, and a trip to our office to meet the team.

Location : This position will require you to work alongside our core team in our office in Knoxville, Tennessee. It’s okay if you don’t currently live in Knoxville, but you need to be willing and able to move to take this position.

Compensation : We hate to use the cliche “it depends,” but in this case it really will vary by productivity (not necessarily “seniority” or experience). We estimate the salary will work out to between $90,000 to $110,000 per year, but we are flexible. If you are a perfect fit for this position, we will work out the compensation.

Benefits : As a full-time employee, you will be eligible to enroll in our health insurance plan. We don’t offer any other traditional benefits (401k, life insurance, cell phone, etc.) because we believe it can lead to a paternalistic culture that discourages individual decision-making. We understand this approach is unique, but we take this into account in setting salaries. Whereas most companies offer 9 units of compensation and 1 unit of benefits, we simply offer 10 units of compensation. We believe our employees can choose how best to take care of themselves (or not).

We push hard to give our customers the best ammo buying experience in the world. If you have the horsepower to play a significant part in helping us meet that goal, you’ll be rewarded. Employees who establish a track record of success and high levels of motivation will quickly enjoy greater responsibility.
