We are now looking for a
**System Specialist (Monitoring and Log Management)**
to join our ICT-services team at the University of Oulu.
The University of Oulu is now seeking a System Specialist in Monitoring and Log Managementto join our ICT Services. In this role, you will play a key part in developing and maintaining the observability capabilities of our large and diverse IT environment. Our infrastructure spans traditional data centers, cloud platforms, and modern container-based environments — and your expertise will help ensure their reliability, performance, and security.
**About the job**
This position combines technical decision-making, process development, and handson engineering work. To succeed, you will need a strong technical foundation, the ability to understand complex systems, and the drive to collaborate effectively across teams.
Your responsibilities will include
**Process Development:** Designing and improving monitoring and log management processes in collaboration with system experts, following the ITIL 5 framework.
**Technology Selection:**Evaluating and selecting monitoring and log management tools and building scalable solutions for large environments.
**Platform Maintenance:** Managing and maintaining selected tools and platforms together with ICT administrators and architects.
**Collaboration & Support:**Supporting system owners and administrators to ensure monitoring and log management meet service requirements and regulatory obligations.
**Compliance:** Ensuring monitoring and log collection practices comply with legislation, regulations, and organizational security policies, with support from architects and the security team.

**Who are you?**
What We Expect from you
- A relevant higher education degree.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical experts and administrative stakeholders.
- Relevant Kubernetes certification: CNCF Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or Red Hat Certified System Administrator in OpenShift (EX280).
- Language requirements: Finnish at CEFR level A2 and English at CEFR level C1/C2.
- Motivation to learn and develop continuously.
Considered an Advantage
- Experience with centralized log management and monitoring solutions.
- Understanding of hybrid infrastructures (onpremises, cloud, Kubernetes) and related observability challenges.
- Strong knowledge of legal and security requirements (e.g., GDPR) related to logging and auditability.
- Practical experience with service management processes and ITIL 4/5.
- Experience with storage solutions and server platforms.
- Experience in network maintenance and development.
- Hands on experience with various monitoring, logging, and observability tools.
**Salary and Employment Details**
The position ispermanent, full time position starting from **7 September 2026** (or as agreed).
The job title is System Specialist. The salary will be based on the levels 10 of the demand level chart for other expert and support staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx.**4300–4600 EUR/month** (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied to the position.
