Job description
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting & Technical Documentation: Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (e.g., AutoCAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create, update, and maintain base infrastructure maps, site plans, and "as-built" facility drawings.
- Field Surveys & Data Collection: Conduct physical site investigations and field measurements for proposed Sustainment, Restoration, and Modernization (SRM) projects. Gather critical data on existing mechanical, electrical, and structural systems to support engineering designs.
- Project Planning Support: Assist senior engineers in preparing Statements of Work (SOW), material take-offs, and government cost estimates. Review basic contractor submittals and shop drawings to verify alignment with project specifications.
- Construction Inspection & Monitoring: Perform regular site visits to monitor ongoing construction and repair activities. Ensure work is progressing according to technical drawings, military standards (UFCs), and safety protocols, reporting any discrepancies to the project manager.
- Records & Database Management: Maintain organized technical libraries, digital drawing databases, and project files. Ensure all facility modification data is accurately captured in the installation’s civil engineering systems of record.
Qualifications:
- An Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Construction Management, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and practical experience).
- Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD, GIS software, and standard Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and update complex architectural, mechanical, electrical, and civil blueprints and schematics.
- Practical knowledge of general construction practices, materials, and basic engineering principles.
- Excellent detail orientation and communication skills to effectively collaborate with engineers, craftspeople, and project managers.
- Ability to conduct physical fieldwork, including walking construction sites and accessing mechanical rooms.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a required security clearance.
