Job Description
PURPOSE SUMMARY.
Perform skilled work in the maintenance, repair, modification and construction of plumbing systems such as water, sewage, steam, natural gas, air, sprinkler, boiler, wells, swimming pool systems and related plumbing equipment. Perform independent preventive maintenance and emergency repairs county wide. Help to maintain and provide the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems to promote workplace and environmental safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES.
Receive and complete work orders of interior plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.
Receive and complete work orders of exterior plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.
Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
Install, repair, or replace domestic appliances.
Install, repair, or replace commercial boilers, sump pumps, and roof drains.
Install, test, and repair all sizes of backflow prevention devices.
Trouble shoot and repair natural gas supply systems.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS.
Education. High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience. Four (4) years of full-time experience as a plumber’s helper, gas fitter, steam fitter, or utility worker. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with County Policy.
Licenses/Certifications. Valid driver’s license. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with County policy. Must possess and maintain a current New Mexico Journeyman Plumber's License at the time of application.
Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver’s license record, etc.). Must pass pre-employment background check and driving record check.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
Knowledge of:
Plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair.
Preventative maintenance according to published industry guidelines and New Mexico plumbing codes.
Plumbing, fire suppression, potable water, sanitary waste, and building distribution systems, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Skill in:
Hand and power tools applicable to trade.
Use of Word, Excel programs and general computer use.
Estimate time and material requirements for work projects.
Develop work schedule, equipment usage, and equipment maintenance.
Ability to:
Use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
Read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Troubleshoot and repair utility distribution systems including heat exchangers, valves, PRVs, backflow, and equipment room piping.
Effectively communicate.
Compensation Range
